Just outside the city centre, in the heart of Milan’s business district, you’ll find this charming apartment. It’s a leisurely half-hour stroll to Castello Sforzesco, in the centre of Milan, or you can hop on a train or metro a two-minute walk from your front door. There’s plenty to explore in your neighbourhood, from ancient churches to swanky eateries and bijou coffee shops. 

This spot is a rooftop penthouse, with a sprawling terrace overlooking the rooftops of Milan to the shining skyscrapers beyond. This is the perfect spot for dinner on sultry summer evenings, or just a sundowner as the sky tinges pink and orange. Inside, there’s a stylish, mid-century feel to the pristine white living room and the open plan of the living area lends itself to social evenings. Throw open the Italian windows to the Juliet balcony and watch the city come to life before you – the view is great up here on the eighth floor.

A small place that punches above its weight, Colour Reversal has been well designed, and that makes a lot of difference. The way that the kitchen fits in with the living room works perfectly from an aesthetic standpoint, and while having the kitchen and the sofa bed in the same room isn’t ideal, we wouldn’t really recommend using that bed anyway. It’s always nice to have the option, however, so we won’t complain.

Found in a beautiful, early 1900s period building near the very heart of Milan, this home has a definite allure to it. Perhaps it's in the way it stays true to its roots with the parquet flooring and large, shuttered windows, or maybe it's in the elegance with which it has been renovated, or, it’s a very real possibility that the charm comes from the balance between the old and the new. 

Rise with the sun and open every window and balcony door to let the breeze carry in the sounds of Milan as you get to work on breakfast in the compact kitchen. Scramble eggs and brew fresh coffee to enjoy at the striking dining table. Read by the light of the window or, better yet, take your novel onto the balcony as you enjoy a drink with a good helping of fresh air and sunshine. 

Close to Central Station, Milan is at your fingertips and you can get anywhere in a matter of minutes by using public transport. If you’d like to explore everything on foot though, you can start by walking around thirty minutes toward Duomo to see the cathedral, and some of the other sites aren’t too far from there. Enjoy lunch out at one of the local restaurants before slowly making your way back to enjoy the sunset from the sofa with a glass of wine.

Housed in a typical Milanese railing building located just outside the main city centre, this boutique apartment offers a comfortable base for those seeking an authentic stay away from the tourist crowds.
 
Inside, chic minimalism is the name of the game with an open-plan living area that gets plenty of light, and its sparkling white walls offset by pops of emerald green and gold accents. Make yourself comfortable on the plump loveseat with a glass of Italian wine, or better yet, perch on the shared front balcony with a sundowner as you take in views of the inner courtyard and the surrounding rooftops.
 
The bedroom, meanwhile, is just as stylishly pared-back with an exposed brick wall backing a beautifully dressed bed, as well as an en-suite bathroom boasting a relaxing rainfall shower.
 
When it comes to sightseeing, take a stroll through one of the nearby parks – Parco Trotter is a twelve-minute walk and Parco Lambro is walkable in thirteen – or visit the Casa Museo Boschi di Stefano, thirty minutes away on foot. You’re also a twenty-two-minute Metro ride from both the Duomo di Milano and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, while the famous Quadrilatero della Moda is also just over twenty minutes away by public transport.

What makes Colour Inversion special is hard to put your finger on, but that doesn’t mean it should be disregarded. Everything there is perfectly proportioned, so while it is a very small place (it can technically hold four people, but that would be a stretch), it never feels undersized. It’s also just off Corso Buenos Aires, one of the main shopping streets in the city and a lively spot in general.

Just outside the city centre, a twenty-minute walk from the shopping streets of Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia, this stylish and sophisticated home is comfortable and homey, with a personality all of its own. Anything but ordinary, it's set in a traditional building and it's been styled with creativity and love.

Boasting a private balcony big enough to sit out on with your aperitivo, and a big wall of windows in the living room, it looks out over a green courtyard. Inside, you'll find high ceilings, a working fireplace, and a variety of designer furniture and vintage pieces. Mixed together with eclectic wall art and a library of books, it's a creative wonderland – and could be perfect if you'll be working remotely during your stay. There's a well-equipped kitchen, with its own tiny balcony, and two peaceful bedrooms – one of which can be used as an office or snug – plus typically classy Italian bathrooms. Located on the first floor of a 1920s block, it's been recently revamped by Palomba Serafini Associati studio. Original features such as high ceilings, stuccoes and radiators have been maintained and paired with contemporary furniture, LED site specific art-chandelier, and limited-edition statement artworks. The overall effect is just stunning. There are other more practical highlights – a 24-hour concierge service accessed by scanning a QR code is probably our favourite. Located right next to Corso Buenos Aires, this vibrant area of the city (central north-east) is a mere steps from the central station and within easy reach of the sights. Overall, this home delivers style and substance for both holidaymakers and business travellers.

Packed full of character and colour, you’ll find this modern pad in the heart of Milan, just a short distance from the Tricolore Metro Station. We love the vibrancy of this home, with artwork adorning the walls that remind you what’s so special about this city. For those in the city on business, there are two workstations here, making remote work a breeze. And the balconies, while compact, are just the spot for a morning coffee or drop of limoncello. You'll find this contemporary apartment in buzzing Milan, but it takes design inspiration from all over the globe. Though it's snug, this apartment is super stylish – we loved the bright living area in particular, which has parquet flooring, quirky wall art and a sleek kitchen where you can whip up a tasty Italian feast. There's a real sense of peace here, which is a much-appreciated reprieve from the hustle and bustle nearby. You're not in central Milan, but this neighbourhood has its own charm and offers plenty of liveliness, with many bars, restaurants, cafes and gelaterias in walking distance. Plus, the famous Duomo is just a twenty-minute stroll away, so you're not far from the iconic sights.

You can stroll to the Duomo in just fifteen minutes, and there are excellent transport links – a tram departs for Central Station from just two minutes away. At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living and dining space. This is a practical home-from-home for a city break, with a kitchen to cook in and free wi-fi.

Set amid the historical attractions of Milan's San Vittore district, this sleek apartment is a great choice for families and groups of friends ticking off the major sights. The stylish living and dining area caught our eye, as well as the sociable kitchen island which is ideal for group breakfasts before setting off for a busy day in the city. When you're ready to explore, landmarks such as the Sforzesco Castle and Santa Maria delle Grazie Church (home of The Last Supper) are within easy walking distance.

Around the corner from Porta Venezia station, and only a few blocks from Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli, Marionette is in a convenient location for getting around the city. It’s not going to set the world on fire in terms of design, but that’s not really the point. Instead, it’s comfortable, very well looked after by Alexey, and in general, it just has a welcoming atmosphere.

This light and bright apartment is an ideal base for up to four people on a Milan city break. Sure, at full occupancy, two guests will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, but we think this home’s enviable location more than makes up for it. You’ll find Indro Montanelli Gardens just a short walk from the apartment, perfect for a morning stroll or jog, while many of Milan’s key attractions are within easy reach on foot or a short metro ride away. 

Milan Spirit

We don't think you'll find a more quintessentially Milanese address than this. Not only does the apartment sit on the seventh floor of the Galleria del Corso shopping arcade, but there's an impressive view to be had out through the windows of the iconic Duomo standing tall among the city rooftops. 

Rather fittingly for such a prestigious location, the interior is luxurious in style, with a wealth of wooden floors, mid-century furnishings and chic lighting. The svelte grey bathroom wouldn't look out of place in some of the city's most covetable hotels, while the kitchen has everything you need in case you want to take a night off from the local restaurants.

As well as a huge range of shops that sit a few floors beneath the home, there's an even larger collection in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, only six minutes' walk away. The Piazza del Duomo sits the same amount of time away, as does the Royal Palace.


Fashionista's Paradise

For a fuss-free stay in the heart of Milan, look no further than this apartment. Located in the buzzing San Marco district, you'll be close to the Duomo (a twenty-minute stroll), Pinacoteca di Brera (eight minutes on foot), and the shops and cafes on Corso Garibaldi (only moments away). It's not the biggest apartment, nor the brightest, but it has all you'll need – a compact kitchen, a cosy bedroom, and speedy wi-fi if you're working from home. There's also a sofa bed for guests three and four, though we think it's a better fit for two.

Milano Twilight

Cumulonimbus shows an inherent understanding of how to combine the old and the new. The modern Foscarini lamps and the sleek kitchen contrast wonderfully with the tiled floors (parquet in other rooms) and the elegant cornices. Given that the second bedroom has a single bed (and a pullout underneath it), the flat would work particularly well for families visiting Milan, and the well-equipped kitchen makes family meals very doable.

Looking to stay right in the heart of Milan? We’ve found you just the right spot in town. Overlooking the beautiful church of San Giorgio al Palazzo and less than five-minutes away from the Duomo, lies this light-filled penthouse. Spread out across the top floor of an elegant building, the home is made for a family or a group of friends set on exploring the city.  We particularly loved the living spaces which make for easy socialising. The original marble fireplace and custom-made bookcases create the perfect setting to come together for a few pre-evening drinks. And surprisingly, for somewhere this central we found the apartment very quiet. It really is the perfect retreat within the hustle and bustle of Milan.

There’s no need to hire a car for a stay in this apartment in Milan’s old town – most of the must-see sights can be reached on foot and there’s a Metro station a minute’s walk away. Located on the top floor of a historical building, you’re away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below so it’s surprisingly quiet for a city centre pad. The minimalist decor here won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we love the mix of white walls and bold window frames. And the large roof terrace is the perfect place to enjoy an aperitivo before heading out for dinner at one of the many local restaurants.

The Art of Milan

Only a few minutes away from Centrale, Pastel Playground is well-connected to all parts of Milan and beyond. Considering the central location, this split-level home is a little oasis of tranquillity, which you’ll especially appreciate after a day of exploration. The lower level has a bright hangout spot with great natural light just by the stairs, but that’s not even the best part. The upstairs kitchen which transitions into a glasshouse dining room (and then a rooftop terrace) is quite the experience on its own. A welcoming atmosphere like this is hard to find.

A spacious and stylish apartment filled with natural light and bags of character, this home is located in an imposing traditional Milanese building right by the city's central train station. It makes a great first impression, with gleaming floors, stained glass windows and a characterful wooden elevator preparing you for what's the come. The cultured owners of this exquisite and soulful home are artsy types, as the original paintings sprinkled throughout the stunning communal areas – created by the host's artist father – or the built-in bookcases will attest. Given its location, transport connections are expectedly excellent, though you're not right in the centre if that's what you're specifically after. Instead, hop on the Metro to reach the heart of the city in under fifteen minutes. Alternatively, embark on a leisurely stroll to the likes of the Duomo di Milano in around forty minutes. Closer by, the likes of Via Tadino and Via San Gregorio – both around a ten-minute walk – have plenty of options when it comes to drinking and dining.

This is a delightful little apartment in the shadow of the Sforzesco Castle. The sprawling greenery of Sempione Park is right on your doorstep and the Duomo, Royal Palace and Teatro alla Scala are all within a fifteen-minute walk. We love the apartment’s terrace, which is home to all sorts of pot plants and cacti, and a table and chairs for a cold glass of something (there's a dedicated wine fridge inside). The designer sofas and curated collection of coffee table books in the living room are everything you’d expect in Italy’s capital of style. But it’s the ceiling that draws the eye – a slant of white-washed wood beams adding a delightfully rustic touch, and lending itself to make-shift books shelves in every available nook and cranny. Despite the proximity to both the castle and the Brera district (home to cafés, restaurants and luxury fashion boutiques), this place is in a residential block, so you’re guaranteed a little peace and quiet.

There are so many good things about Sailor’s Solace that it’s hard to know where to start. We adore the living room, a place that feels down-to-earth and yet special at the same time – especially when it fills with sunlight. It’s hard not to flop into the hammock as soon as you see it, and even harder to peel yourself away. At this unique home, it's tempting just to stay in, passing the evening on the terrace with a Campari for company.

But when in Milan, there's much to see. And here, you’re close enough to most of the major attractions to walk (and if you weren’t, there’s a station nearby). Start with the medieval Sforzesco Castle, just a ten-minute walk away. The 15th-century structure sits on an expanse of beautifully-manicured gardens – there's even an aquarium, ideal if you're travelling with children. 

From here, wind your way towards the Duomo, stopping for a coffee and cannoli somewhere along the way. The cathedral is like nothing else you've ever seen, constructed from elegant pink marble.
