This bright, open-plan studio in the middle of Alfama is a perfect stay for those who want to get up close and personal with historical Lisbon. The apartment is a good size, with a separate dining area and a lounging corner that lends it a cosy vibe, while the use of marble in the bathroom adds a few style points. Staying here puts you within a few minutes' walk of hilltop Castelo São Jorge and many other central sights – perfect for a first-time visitor. You're also conveniently close to a stop on the iconic number 12 tram's route, which means you can put your feet up after a day of exploring at your own pace. To end the day as the locals do, we'd suggest grabbing a seat outside the bohemian bar, Botequim. This iconic Lisbon watering hole is an excellent spot for a sunset glass of local wine.

Local guide
About Graça
Graça is the highest point of Lisbon's seven hills, sitting just above the beautiful Alfama. You’ll find some of the best views of the city in this neighbourhood. Wind your way slowly up and down the cobbled streets, pausing at viewpoints to take in the pastel-painted walls of Alfama. The downside to the incredible views is the steepness of Graça – we advise taking it steady and calling in to local bars and restaurants for regular energy-boosts. As the sun sets over Lisbon, you’ll find your efforts in finding the perfect terrace worthwhile.
