Do you have a question about this home or the local area?

Filled with historic artworks, mesmerising frescos, and majestic carved wood doors, this Venice apartment feels a little like living in an art museum. Oozing character, it’s fit for someone who wants a taste of what the home of a Venetian noble family probably looked like. Wall-sized oil paintings feel as though they’re on loan from the Uffizi, illuminated by a sparkling chandelier at night and sunlight from long windows during the day. There’s a dedicated, book-lined office should you need to work remotely and there’s something charmingly provincial about the dark wood kitchen. Then there’s the patio. Out here, between the porticoed verandas, vines twist along the walls and stained-glass windows add a sense of privacy. Coffee or cocktails can be taken at the wrought-iron dining set and sitting out here it’s hard to imagine you’re in the centre of Venice. Campo San Stefano is on your doorstep – and you’re only a ten-minute walk from both the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco.

Home truths

It’s a large home, so the wifi was a bit patchy in certain rooms.

There's air-conditioning in all the bedrooms except the fifth bedroom.

It sleeps nine guests, but two of them would be on a sofa bed in one of the living rooms.

As with many homes in Venice, this home has its fair share of uneven surfaces, scars, and cracks – it’s a part of the charm.

The traditional decor here might not be to everyone's taste. It feels a little dated in parts.

Be prepared for some up and down – there’s no lift in the building (you have to climb forty-four steps)

Your host can provide a cot and high chair for infants, just ask.

Depending on preference, you might not find the fridge to be cold enough here.

About San Marco

San Marco is probably the most well-known of Venice’s main districts, and the most popular among tourists. It’s packed with monuments – it has spectacular palaces and churches, and consistently beautiful Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The central square is, unsurprisingly, an important tourist hub. A lot of the luxury hotels are around here, so it’s not necessarily the place to find authentic, family-run restaurants or cafes. This area’s known for...
