The best places to stay in Athens

Plaka

Known as known as the 'Neighbourhood of the Gods', this is the oldest area in Athens. Narrow streets are lined with colourful bougainvillaea, independent shops, and some of the best restaurants in the city. It's situated at the base of the Acropolis, making it ideal for sightseeing.

Monastiraki

The shopping, nightlife, and dining scenes in Monastiraki are second to none. It's centred around the namesake square, a bustling plaza with a centuries-old Byzantine church. At night, the area lights up with cafes and bars, all while the Parthenon glows softly in the background.

Koukaki

Koukaki is a university and residential neighbourhood with a laid-back vibe. The tree-lined Georgaki Olympiou Street offers nightlife and sidewalk cafes where locals come to socialise. It's a great choice if you want to experience a quieter side of Athens while still having easy access to the tourist hotspots.
