Beachfront living is hard to beat, and that's exactly what this fuss-free apartment offers. Set on Sandgate Esplanade, the shingled beach is just across the street. It's on the top three floors of a Victorian building dating back 150 years, so expect to climb quite a few stairs. You'll find it's worth the effort, though, as the views from up here are superb. The bay window offers sweeping sea panoramas, including a glimpse of France in the distance. It's not the most modern home – the communal hallway is especially dated – but it works well for families keen to be seconds from the sea.

Home truths
This is a duplex apartment. The front door is on the first floor of a building without a lift, and there are further stairs once inside – including nine steps between the bathroom and the rest of the rooms on the top floor.
The communal entrance of this building might appear a little worn and dated in parts. The stairs also creak as the building is over 150 years old.
The trundle bed is best suited to children rather than adults.
One bathroom has a bathtub with a hand-held showerhead. It doesn't have a shower curtain, so it's best suited to long soaks.
Though a car isn't needed in the immediate area, we suggest having one for adventures further afield. Roadside parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
