How can you say no to a view like that? With sweeping vistas across the Tagus River, this contemporary penthouse is a one-of-a-kind getaway right on Lisbon's riverfront. Pull up a chair, open a bottle of Vinho Verde and admire the scenery from the porthole-style windows. But if that's not enough, you can take in the panoramic views of the city – including the National Pantheon – from the communal rooftop terrace. Back inside, the modern design is sleek and stylish, with lots of natural light and cosy spots to unwind. When you feel like cooking, the glossy kitchen has everything you need to rustle up a meal and the living room's fireplace is perfect for chilly evenings. And we loved the welcome basket on arrival, filled with a bottle of white wine, fresh fruit and delicious Portuguese custard tarts. Location-wise, you're a little outside the bustling city centre, but it's still an excellent spot to base yourself. Restaurants and museums are just a stone's throw away, while Castelo de S. Jorge is twenty minutes on foot. But with Santa Apolónia Station a three-minute walk away, getting around the rest of the city is a breeze – you can be... in Praça do Comércio in five minutes, flat.

Home truths
During our visit, we found the wifi to be a little on the slow side – those needing a fast connection for work may want to look elsewhere
There was also some general wear-and-tear that we noticed, such as peeling adhesive on the kitchen cabinets
The communal roof terrace has an excellent view but no seating – it could do with a bit of attention
A cot, baby bath and high chair are available on request
There's a free parking spot in the basement garage, but we don't think a car is needed
This flat is in an apartment building with a shared entrance – please respect the neighbours and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm
Pets may be considered for an additional fee – please ask the host for more information

Host
This home is managed by João & Gilda
This home is managed directly by its owner who will be your point of contact before and during your stay. João and his wife love to travel and have visited over eighty countries together. They began hosting with a property in Albufeira and now, four years on, they rent homes throughout the country. They treat their guests with the care they would want for themselves, offering plenty of personal touches to the service – we loved being spoilt with the complimentary Pastel de Natas, fresh fruit and beers!
