Apollonia feels like we’ve travelled back in time and entered the home of a Venetian noble family. The living room is the heart of the home – grand, majestic, and historic at once, its walls are covered in Renaissance art (don’t forget to ask the hosts about these paintings). The Altana is also wonderful (Venetian for roof terrace), why not enjoy it at sunset? Found right by Campo Santo Stefano, you’re within walking distance to many of the city’s most famous attractions – and the views are mesmerising too.

Home truths
As it’s a large home, the wifi was a bit patchy in places
It’s split across three floors – be prepared for some up and down
Even though it sleeps seven guests, one of them would be on a single bed in the communal area
As with many homes in Venice, this home has its fair share of uneven surfaces, scars, and cracks – it’s a part of the charm

About San Marco
San Marco is probably the most well-known of Venice’s main districts, and the most popular among tourists. It’s packed with monuments – it has spectacular palaces and churches, and consistently beautiful Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The central square is, unsurprisingly, an important tourist hub. A lot of the luxury hotels are around here, so it’s not necessarily the place to find authentic, family-run restaurants or cafes. This area’s known for...

This is the place to discover the city's most important art collection, spanning the fourteenth to the eighteenth century.
A moment of reflection at Santa Maria della Salute
Located at the end of Punta Dogana, this impressive church was built during the plague. The sacristy is home to paintings by Tintoretto and Titan.
Enjoy the Peggy Guggenheim collection
This private collection houses works by key twentieth-century artists including Dalì, Picasso, and Mondrian. The palace it's held in is a marvel in itself.
Taste a Bellini at the Harry's Bar
Harry's Bar is the birthplace of the bellini, and it used to be one of Hemingway's top spots in Venice. As expected, the cocktail offering here is excellent.
Step Back in Time at Caffè Florian
This one is all about location – take a seat at the tables and admire the majesty of San Marco square while you listen to street performers.
See an opera at Teatro la Fenice
Teatro la Fenice's name translates to 'Phoenix Theatre', a name it earned by being burned down twice. Remember to book in advance – most shows sell out.
Photograph the view from the bridge
Ponte dell'Accademia is the southernmost of the four bridges of Venice that cross the Canal Grande, and it offers the best view of the water.
Have an ice cream at Gelateria Nico
Come here especially for the gianduiotto, a swirl of ice cream placed in a glass before being drowned in whipped cream.
Make reservations at Bistrot de Venise
An exquisite gem in the heart of Venice, offering authentic Italian cuisine with modern twists. Meticulously prepared dishes, flawless service, and an ambience that captivates.
Dine at Da Mamo
This candlelit trattoria is located down a narrow lane and offers some of the best pizza and pasta in Venice. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere make it a memorable dining experience.

Host
This home is managed by Marco
This home is managed directly by a business. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Caroline and Marco are Venetians and lived in Milan and London for years before returning to their hometown. Caroline has been the youngest female manager in the Association of Industrialist ever and Marco had managing roles in the IT distribution business in UK for many years. Today, they’re full-time hosts and they love it – together, they also have two children (Jacopo and Nicolò), and a cat named Albus Dumbledore.
