Setting foot inside The Nanna feels like stepping into a modern fairytale. Brimming with natural light, breathtaking artworks by local artist Augusta Atla von Fogh, and a colour palette that’s to die for (we love the terracotta-coloured kitchen), it’s incredibly special. The Nanna can actually be found in an old building, so expect to find lots of charming period features too. As it’s around the corner from both the iconic Round Tower and King’s Garden, you’re in one of Copenhagen’s most central locations.

Home truths

There was no home manual when we visited

The layout is a little awkward, you have to walk through some of the bedrooms to reach the other ones

Aside from the rails, there’s little storage space

Be prepared for some up and down – there’s no lift (you have to climb thirty-four steps)

There’s only one shower to share between eight people

Even though there are blinds, they don’t do a great job of blocking out the sunlight

As per Danish custom, Josefine asks that you remove your shoes when you're inside the apartment

The upstairs apartment was undergoing renovation when we visited – you might be able to hear some noises during the day

Other than being the mecca of all things shopping-related, you are also within easy access to attractions like Kongens Have, the National Gallery of Denmark, Christiansborg, Nyhavn and Amalienborg.
