Do you have a question about this home or the local area?

Deep in the Somerset countryside, this cottage feels like a magical hideaway. Located in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, this Grade II listed farmhouse stands out with its thatched roof, beautiful stonework, and trailing foliage on its exterior walls. Although ancient, it has been beautifully and elegantly refurbished in a relaxed, country style – and what could be more welcoming than a wood-burning stove? The large fireplace, exposed masonry, flagstone floors, and timber beams are some of our favourite features, but your host goes the extra mile to make it even more special. With fluffy bathrobes and a seriously high thread count on the bedding, you can’t help but notice luxury all around. You can even have a private chef come over and cook your dinner. If you don’t fancy a Sunday roast, light up the barbecue in the lush back garden on a sunny day. The quiet country lanes lead two miles to the nearby town of Ilminster where you can stock up on fresh, local produce and immerse yourself in rural culture. And as part of rural culture, you’ll have to take a trip to the pub to sample some fine English ales.

Home truths

The doorways are low (around 5'8") which might not be particularly comfortable for taller guests

One bedroom can be made up as a super king bed or two single beds, just ask your host in advance

We recommend bringing a car as the location is rather rural, plus you've got a free parking spot on-site

Dogs are allowed, but please let your host know in advance – up to two dogs are welcome but they must stay downstairs, and you need to pay £50 per pooch

Your host can provide a cot, high chair, safety gates, and babysitter recommendations for the little ones

As the home allows for self check-in with a lockbox, you might not meet your host

For additional fees, you can make use of extra services such as bicycle hire and a private chef

About Somerset

Somerset is all about Glastonbury, right? Well, think again! There's a certain town-meets-country charm here that is enticing increasing numbers of stressed city dwellers seeking solace. And who can blame them? Rat race relocators are abandoning their crowded commutes, searching for a bucolic idyll. But one where you can still get a decent flat white – that's an absolute must.
