This historic Grade I home has a more dramatic past than its tranquil setting suggests – it was used by Oliver Cromwell as a garrison during the civil war. Its loving restoration ensures that the rich history, which begins even earlier than the 17th Century, is keenly felt, as 700-year-old beams abound and paintings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries adorn the walls. Gather the whole group around the 18th-century Gillows table – the kitchen has everything you need to create a banquet. There’s an array of lounges to unwind in after supper, set around ancient stone fireplaces. The grounds are equally special and include a courtyard, orchard and Italian garden, which are just as charming in summer and winter. If you want to head out, The Pack Horse, a local gastropub, is within walking distance, and you're fifteen minutes’ drive from both the market town of Peterborough and Stamford, known as one of the finest Georgian Towns in England.

Grander abodes come in the form of estate homes, like Althorp House, Boughton House and Sulgrave Manor, open to the public for tours of opulent rooms and rambles through...

This home is managed directly by a business. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Nearly twenty years ago, Oliver and his friend began curating the world's most unique and rustic getaways.
