Perched above the Conwy Valley in Snowdonia National Park, this home offers sweeping views of the picture-perfect, lush countryside. A forty-minute drive from sights like Llyn Padarn, a glacial lake, you can explore the entire mountain range in all its glory. But staying here is the ultimate rural retreat for seekers of peace and quiet. As you roll up to this renovated stone cottage, you’ll find plenty of charming original features inside and out. In the rustic living space, settle down on the plush sofa and look up to see chunky timber beams. The rich tone of the wood is matched with the doors and floors, bringing a superb warmth to the room. Linger by the wood-burning stove in the lounge on chilly mornings, or open the patio doors on balmy evenings. Grill something fresh on the barbecue and savour the views with a glass of pinot noir. There’s even a little stream running through the garden, bringing nature even closer to you. If you do want to get back into civilisation, a half-hour drive will take you to the pretty town of Conwy, where you can explore the ancient castle and wander its cobbled streets.

Home truths
Two dogs are welcome to join you, but people with allergies might want to check which breeds have visited in the past
The friendly owners live nearby, they won't disturb you but will be on hand to help
A high chair, stair gate, and travel cot are available upon request
There's plenty of parking but access is via a single track road, so you’ll need a car – the nearest village is two miles away
The central heating is oil-powered, and for the wood-burning stove your host provides a few logs to get you started (also, the Aga is purely decorative)
One bedroom is in the eaves, so taller guests might not like the sloped ceilings
The sofa can be made into a double bed which could sleep two kids, at the expense of lounge seating

Snowdonia National Park is a hiker’s paradise and home to Wales’ biggest lake and highest mountain. After you’ve tackled Snowdon (we won’t tell if you take the little train), there are countless other peaks and trails to explore, many...
