Surrounded by towering fir trees, this A-shaped cabin feels like a warm hug – albeit a hug from a very tall person. This is a home where the vibe of the cabin in the woods prevails, but less isolated in a community of other homes. The split-level living room gives enough space for everyone to get together or have alone time, and there's something soothing about the big windows letting the alpine light in, especially as it changes throughout the day. Plus you've got your own decking, a great spot to take a moment for yourself and look out over the peaceful woodland. Ten minutes outside of Tahoe City, this home's a great spot for outdoor adventures – whether you're after horseback riding and river rafting in the summer, or here to ski the famous slopes of Squaw Valley in the winter. After your daily dose of adventure, snuggle up under the rafters. Breathe in and out — it's time to kick back and relax blissfully, perhaps with a fire crackling away in the grate.

Home truths

There are over forty outdoor stairs from street parking to the side entry, which may be difficult to climb with equipment and luggage

We suggest bringing sand or salt with you in winter – the stairs get icy and can become an issue

We recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay – there is parking for up to two cars outside the home

The cabin is a part of a complex, so if you want total privacy you may want to stay elsewhere

The lead guest must be at least 25 years old

Quiet hours are strictly enforced between 9pm and 8am

Due to wildfire risk, fire pits and barbecues are not permitted outdoors

About Olympic Valley

On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
