With its dark wooden frames and surrounding woodland, this home makes for a cosy stay despite its large size. Spread across a few floors, this impressive and innovative spot is somewhere between a townhouse and a lodge. It is just outside of the city centre of Truckee, surrounded by parkland and a river that keeps you close to nature. In winter, watch snow grace the terrain and head to one of the ski resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe. The lake itself is a family paradise in the summer months when you can kayak and swim in it. Back home, explore the nooks and crannies on each floor before curling up with a book by the living room fireplace. Lie on the plump sofas and make use of the large bathtubs to unwind after a day of skiing. The kitchen is modern and stylish, while the terrace is the perfect spot for lunch.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
