Perched high above the ocean, facing west so the sun hits the terrace most hours of the day, this villa’s position is the envy of the island. Huge glass doors slide open to the wrap-around terrace where sun loungers make the most of the daily rays and a neat blue swimming pool waits for its surface to be disturbed during the heat of the day. There’s outdoor dining, with a barbecue ready to grill up fresh fish from the local market. Inside, it’s all on one level and both bedrooms have sliding door access to their own seating on the terrace. Take in the sea view from the cool of the living room where the open-plan layout means the chef of the group can still join in the conversation. If you fancy dining out of an evening, the restaurants and shops of Calheta, or for a day at the beach Jardim do Mar is just a 10-minute drive.
