Surrounded by the wild natural beauty of the Peak District National Park, this idyllic cottage is the perfect getaway to relax and explore this majestic part of the English countryside. Located just outside the village of Birchover (a twenty-minute drive from Matlock), you’ll have all the peace and quiet you need to truly rest and unwind. Dating back to the 1700s, the cottage was originally built as a two-storey barn for the main house which your host Rachael’s parents bought as a ruin in the 1960s. Recently restored, you can tell how much love and care has been put into this stunning space that blends beautiful modern comforts with characterful original details to create an unforgettable home. From the underfloor heating to the wood-burning stove, romantic roll-top tub and sweeping views of the Peak District fields and valleys, there’s a storybook warmth and cosiness here that instantly makes you feel welcome. With two outdoor terraces, you can enjoy your breakfast alfresco while the horses roam around you, or fire up the barbecue for a dinner under the stars. Factor in the DVDs, books and board games on hand and there’s plenty to keep you entertained on rainy days – but... with so much nature to explore, we recommend grabbing your wellies and venturing out into the great outdoors. Walk around your home to discover the secret walking trails through the woods and ask your host to show you the megalithic Rocking Stone nearby. Visit Robin Hood’s Stride (eleven minutes by car or an hour’s walk), take a dip in the swimming hole at Youlgreave (an eight-minute drive) and spend an afternoon at stately Chatsworth House, fifteen minutes away by car.

Host
This home is managed by Rachael
This home is managed directly by its owner who will be your point of contact before and during your stay. After living and working in Hong Kong, owners Rachael and Gerry moved back to the farm where Rachael grew up and settled in with their family. No detail was overlooked when they decided to convert the barn cottage and they love making sure their guests get the most out of their stay. Rachael and Gerry live on-site in the main house and are happy to offer advice about the local area and also show you up to the legendary Rocking Stone.
