The banks of the Seine are lined with artists, booksellers and some of Paris’ most magnificent sights. Position yourself on the river’s edge at this typically Parisian apartment. On Île de la Cité, you are quite literally in the heart of Paris – the iris-like island of the Seine. Notre Dame is your neighbour, a two-minute walk from your front door. The Latin Quarter, famous for its independent bookshops and student cafés is in one direction, while Paris’ artsiest neighbourhood, Le Marais, is in the other. Eclectic is the watchword in the apartment itself, where a collection of antique furniture transports you back to 19th-century France – think chaise longue, ornate clocks and gilded mirrors. A writer’s bureau in the living room is there for a creative moment, and both bedrooms have plenty of books to keep you occupied. High ceilings and original fireplaces retain the building’s history and the highlight here is the view from big French windows out to the boats on the river and handsome buildings that line the Seine.
