Set within twenty acres of manicured gardens and parkland, and yet just a forty-minute stroll (or a nine-minute drive) to the centre of York, you’ve got the best of city and country with a stay at this charming cottage. Housed in the old stables once belonging to a William III country manor house, this home has been lovingly restored to offer all the creature comforts. When the sun shines, take your freshly brewed morning coffee or evening sundowner out onto the private terrace. On chiller months, curl up in the cosy living space for some downtime with a good book (or sky TV if you prefer), or come together around the dining table to break out the cottage’s board games. When it’s finally time to lay your head, climb the flight of stairs to discover two serene bedrooms with sash windows revealing leafy green scenes below that lure you to explore. And there's plenty to discover right on your doorstep. Take a turn around the grounds of the wider estate – be sure to look out for the 17th-century Hall at its heart, once the home of the famous diarist, Lady Mary Wortley Montague. Or head into the medieval city... centre for boutique shopping, all the historical must-sees, including York Minster and the vibrant Shambles Market, and all the tea rooms you could muster.
