Lie low for a while amid the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park – best seen through the vast south-facing picture windows of this meticulously converted barn. Winding your way up the country lane leading to this home, you could feel a world away from everything. Yet the characterful medieval town of Lewes is just a ten-minute drive away and a little further, Brighton (twenty-minute drive) for a walk by the sea and shopping in its Lanes. But it’s right here at home where we think you’ll be spending most of your time. From alfresco barbecues on the vast garden terrace, sundowners on the mezzanine balcony, and relaxing in the hot tub, to large sit-down dinners indoors overlooking the downs, this house is well suited for entertaining. And there’s heaps of space to spill out in the generously sized bedrooms – spread out over two floors and united by a tasteful mix of contemporary and rustic interiors. Lofty high ceilings, polished concrete flooring (the underfloor heating keeps things toasty), and sleek architectural glazing make quite the first impression. While a bespoke shaker kitchen with all the mod-cons (think Everhot range cooker and wine cooler) and beautifully curated objet’s... de art bring character and soul. After bracing walks in the surrounding hills, kick off your muddy shoes in the boot room and sink into the sumptuous sofas to soak up those awe-inspiring views with freshly brewed coffee. Feathered by cosy cushions and the softest sheepskin, it's highly likely you may never want to leave.

The beach is still the beating heart of this coastal city, with a long promenade, outdoor art installations and all the traditional fun...
