Part of the historic Estate of Dorney Court, this timber-framed house dates back to the sixteenth century and is a magical blend of heritage and modernity. The former great hall is emblematic of this. The thirty-foot-high ceilings remain, as do the wooden beams in the vaults, but there have been a few recent additions, from the glitzy chandelier and bovine-themed artwork to the huge kitchen complete with a range cooker. Elsewhere, you'll find two wood burners and an open fire, so guests will never be anything other than toasty. Plus, there's a range of vintage beds in the sleeping quarters, which bring a dash of aristocratic glamour to your slumber. Surrounding the property are some large grounds with stables and English village life awaits just beyond the boundaries, with Dorney Common and the home of the London 2012 Olympics rowing events, Dorney Lake, only eight minutes' walk away. If you want to work up a hunger beforehand, there are some pretty walking routes running alongside the River Thames, which can be reached in about twenty minutes from the home, plus a pub and bakery taking barely two minutes' walk.
