The Vatican is so close you can see the dome of St Peter’s Basilica from the balcony of this apartment. In ten minutes on foot, you can be admiring the endless museums and world-famous Sistine Chapel of the world’s smallest country. The apartment itself has a spacious, open-plan living area which is kept bright and light with pure white walls. Vibrant modern artworks add a lively pop of colour at every turn, and the slate-grey sofa sings with neon cushions. The full kitchen in fire-engine-red has everything you need to whip up breakfast, lunch and dinner. In our opinion, the best spot for an evening aperitivo is the private balcony which has an enviable view of St Peter’s Basilica, whose dome rises out from the shambling rooftops and is illuminated at sunset.

Local guide
About Aurelio
Despite its proximity to the Vatican, Aurelio is still often overlooked by Romans and tourists alike, only mentioned as the butt of the joke. However, it has more to offer than most would believe. A bustling residential district, it has plenty of local haunts with the clientele spilling out onto the street, as well as several green squares and a Russian Orthodox church, Santa Caterina Martire. It’s worth noting that some parts can be hard to reach, even with public transport, and it becomes less prepossessing as you head further north or west.
