There’s something rather palatial about this Tuscan villa. Perhaps it’s the stone urns atop rooftop crenellations or the green shutters against the ombre facade. Or it could be the cypress trees, standing straight as footsoldiers in the sprawling grounds. Whatever it is, we could spend days in the grounds alone where olive groves and vineyards spread across the rolling hills around and the garden is home to secret seating nooks and a sleek swimming pool. Our favourite spot is dining beneath the tunnel trellis, dappled with greenery. Everything about the interior is grand, from the painted, wrought-iron bedsteads to carriage clocks on the mantel and gilded mirrors on the walls. Antique furniture adorns every bedroom and curios from a bygone era are on display. Think Victorian cameras and brass weighing scales in the kitchen. Plush livings rooms are lit by the glow of candelabra and there’s an upright piano in the hall. In terms of location, it’s a twenty-minute drive to the beautiful medieval city of Siena, and less than an hour’s drive from Florence for a day trip to the galleries and buzzing piazzas.
