Throw open the windows in the living space of this Porto apartment and you're greeted with a wonderful view of not only the mighty Douro River but also the double-deck Dom Luís I Bridge. As you watch the boats bob by, you'll find that it's as peaceful a panorama as you could hope for in the middle of a major European city. Once you've finished taking it all in, it's time to give your living quarters a closer look. The huge mirrored wall that separates the kitchen and living area makes the interior look both brighter and larger, although the home is already bigger than you might expect for somewhere with such a small guest count — no cramped kitchenettes to be found here, only a smart galley space that has plenty of room for whipping up dinners after a long day sightseeing. We're also big fans of the wide-ranging art collection, which adds a personal touch. Although it only takes two minutes to reach the river's banks, there are plenty more attractions nearby too, including the Bolsa Palace just across the street and the medieval Muralha Fernandina only five minutes away on foot.

About Miragaia

Situated to the west of the city centre, and leading down to the Douro river, Miragaia is a jumble of medieval streets. Like Ribeira, it has brightly coloured buildings and sweeping views over the water. But unlike the city’s main riverside hub, Miragaia is tucked away from the usual tourist trails. In the evenings its restaurant and bar scene thrives, but it’s generally calmer area, with a strong local population...
