You'll find this 18th-century watermill just outside Fowey on the Cornish coast. Surrounded by two acres of rolling gardens, this home feels like a storybook come to life. The hosts have lovingly restored every inch – from the lofty timber beams to the exposed stone walls – yet it's been given some luxe 21st-century upgrades. There are rainfall showers in the bathrooms, a snug den filled with books, games and DVDs for rainy days and a cosy log burner in the living room perfect for winter months. But our favourite room – and yours too, we bet – is the farmhouse kitchen. It's truly the heart of the home, with a ten-seater dining table and all the crockery and cookware you could need. Whether you're rustling up quick breakfasts to share alfresco on the terrace, baking tasty treats to take with you to the seaside or preparing a Sunday roast with all the fixings, it's an absolute dream to cook in, especially with the bi-fold doors open and the breeze blowing through. When you're ready to venture out, Fowey and the harbour are a five-minute drive away, while Readymoney Cove is eight minutes by car if you're in the mood... for a swim. Enjoy a trek along the Saints Way or spend the day visiting the Eden Project – whatever you get up to, this is an excellent spot to discover the best of Cornwall.
