While the Catalan capital of Barcelona is known for drawing the crowds, this authentic region also has plenty to offer those who seek a more peaceful lifestyle. Just a one-hour drive west of the city, the historic village of La Torre de Clarmunt is an exceptional choice for a relaxed, rural vibe. Sights like the 11th-century Castell, a four-minute walk from this apartment, are well worth seeing – but you’ve got everything you need and more at home. You’ll be pampered as soon as you arrive, with a generous hamper including local wine, olive oil, and fruit juice to quench your thirst. And your hosts can offer all sorts of activities from board games, to mountain bikes for exploring the countryside. But before you head off on an adventure, unpack your luggage in your garden apartment. Guests are welcomed by beautifully high ceilings in a bright living space. Original features such as timber beams are a nod to its historic past – this 1901 home was built by the Marqués de Gironella. We love the understated furniture and neutral colour scheme, creating a zen environment that feels calm and fresh. But with its own private terrace where you can serve up fresh... pastries for brunch, you might be spending a lot of time outside after all.

The place doesn't even look real when you see the photos. The fantastical church of Sagrat Cor in the mountains is its greatest hit, but we recommend you take the whole day to explore the mountain.
