Austria’s lush, mountainous landscapes are a delight for sun-worshippers as well as snow-lovers. With this in mind, it’s a treat to stay in a home that can cater for all seasons. Just a four-minute drive from the slopes of Maria Alm Hochkönig, the same distance to the nearest golf course, and a half-hour from the lakeside splendour of Zell am See, this lodge can welcome you home after any type of adventure. First of all, its location is simply unmatched. It’s set upon a hill looking over the quaint town of Maria Alm, with dramatic, rugged mountains in the background. This postcard-ready scenery looks just as good with your traditional chalet in the picture, as it does from one of your private balconies. These wooden suntraps are ideal for a chilled glass of Grüner on a hot afternoon, or a steaming mug of cocoa on a winter’s eve. Inside, rustic meets modern in a fabulous display of exposed stonework and timber beams. We love the nods to mountain life in the living space and kitchen, where antique skis adorn the walls and you can rest your mug on a sled in lieu of a coffee table. Everything is illuminated by the glow...
