One for art and culture lovers – this home is just a two-minute stroll from Giardini della Biennale, which hosts the Venice Biennale Art Festival, the largest and most famous international art exhibition. On Via Garibaldi (an eight-minute saunter), you'll find some of Venice's best restaurants, as well as a market selling fresh produce. This part of the island is ideal if you want to mingle with the locals and get away from the main tourist areas. That said, it's only two boat stops away from the beaches of the Lido, and historic Piazza San Marco is just over a twenty-minute walk. Back at this home, your hosts occasionally run art exhibitions here, so you may see some beautiful works of art adorning the walls, in addition to the modern pieces already displayed. The house has been carefully restored with local Venetian materials, such as the kitchen with its reclaimed marble from an ancient Abbey near San Marco. We love the industrial vibe, which blends well with the old – think steel and concrete staircases, terrazzo floors and whitewashed beams. After all that exploring, have a soak in the freestanding round bath, or get some fresh air on the private balcony...

About Castello

Castello represents a cluster of islands at the eastern edge of Venice’s centre. It’s a quieter side of Venice, without too many tourists. All this changes, however, during the Biennale. This behemoth of the art world takes place in odd-numbered years, and is housed in the former shipyards that give the quarter its name. When the exhibition isn't on, you’ll find museums and ornate churches to explore, and an abundance...
