Much like the city of Lucca itself, there’s a bonafide touch of opulence to this apartment that we can’t resist. Gleaming chequered marble flooring sweeps through the home. While a rich tapestry of pattern and colour adds flourishes of modernity and echo the pastel facades of the walled city outside. Once you’ve done gawping over the grand living and dining space, head into the boutique-feel bedrooms, where it’s out with the drab and in with vibrant textiles. Friends sharing will love the two seperate bathrooms, so there’s no hanging around when it’s time to get up and at ’em. And indeed, you should. Right outside your doorstep, you’ll find the leafy garden of Palazzo Pfanner for some fresh air. Or simply lose yourself to Lucca’s cobbled streets, discovering handsome piazzas and renaissance palaces at every turn. And there’s no storage of places to stop for rustic Tuscan fare around here – all washed down with a glass or two of Lucchesi wine. If you feel like venturing further afield to other city hotspots, Pisa is just a half-an-hour journey away. Though we suspect you may find all the Tuscan vibes you’re chasing right here in Lucca.

There’s a buzzy nightlife scene centred around cool enotecas and craft beer bars. On Via Fillungo, you’ll find some of Lucca’s finest boutiques, with high-end...
