For a uniquely memorable stay in the heart of Essex countryside, opt for this charming church conversion just ten minutes from Basildon. The grade II listed home is brimming with character, from the vaulted beam ceilings to the staggeringly beautiful stained glass windows. The owners have complemented the original features with antique furniture and jewel-toned pops of colour, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere the moment you arrive. The main living space is vast, with separate areas for lounging, dining and curling up with a good book. In the modern kitchen, an arched doorway leads to the landscaped garden where you can spend summer days chatting over a barbecued feast. Sitting in rural Essex, the house is surrounded by miles of lush farmlands peppered with grazing cattle, and there are plenty of villages nearby to stop off at for some classic pub grub. If you fancy a day on the town, central London is easily reachable by train.
