Translating to English as 'fever well' after a tale about Countess Margarete Maultasch drinking from a local well and being cured from illness, Fieberbrunn is a particularly scenic corner of Austria, blessed as it is with dramatic hillsides and dense pockets of forest. That's why securing a home with a decent view is imperative if you're planning a visit. Not only does this apartment benefit from floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to gorgeous scenery, but there's also a terrace so you can do so while taking in deep lungfuls of fresh Alpine air. The interior is modest but put together with a deft touch. There's a preference for wooden finishes that feel quite traditional, while the furnishings bear a mid-century influence. What we particularly like is the wealth of communal amenities that are available in the building, ranging from a sauna and steam room to a fitness centre. Of course, nobody comes to Fieberbrunn to sit inside all day. The huge ski area containing 270 runs takes all of three minutes to reach in the car, while Lauchsee lake lies five minutes' drive away and makes for a lovely swimming spot during the warmer months.
