Sitting on the edge of Palm Springs, this hacienda-style home was built in the 1940s, but even the architecturally untrained eye will be able to see that there have been some more recent additions made in the ensuing decades. The most obvious of these upgrades has to be the saline swimming pool with a fountain feature that sits in the middle of the outdoor space, which benefits from a striking mountain backdrop. Once you're done splashing about, you can try your hand at bocce ball on the regulation-size court or show off culinary skills on the built-in barbecue. Even if you're just taking a seat on a lounger, you're sure to appreciate the grapevine-covered pergola and citrus orchard that guests are free to pick from. Inside, the architects in charge of the home's recent restoration have retained much of the period charm, as seen with the terracotta tiling underfoot, wooden furnishings and ornate chandeliers. That being said, the kitchen and bathrooms are sufficiently sleek for modern travellers and there's also a great collection of board games and books to keep you entertained. When you're in the mood to see a little more of the local area, Downtown Palm Springs is less than five... minutes' drive away and offers a wealth of galleries, restaurants and shops to explore. When it comes to outdoor excursions, there are two things you will find in abundance locally – hiking trails and golf courses. You can also take the Aerial Tramway – ten minutes away by car – to the top of San Jacinto.
