Sitting on the edge of Palm Springs, this hacienda-style home was built in the 1940s, but even the architecturally untrained eye will be able to see that there have been some more recent additions made in the ensuing decades. The most obvious of these upgrades has to be the saline swimming pool with a fountain feature that sits in the middle of the outdoor space, which benefits from a striking mountain backdrop. Once you're done splashing about, you can try your hand at bocce ball on the regulation-size court or show off culinary skills on the built-in barbecue. Even if you're just taking a seat on a lounger, you're sure to appreciate the grapevine-covered pergola and citrus orchard that guests are free to pick from. Inside, the architects in charge of the home's recent restoration have retained much of the period charm, as seen with the terracotta tiling underfoot, wooden furnishings and ornate chandeliers. That being said, the kitchen and bathrooms are sufficiently sleek for modern travellers and there's also a great collection of board games and books to keep you entertained.
