Nestled right beside Lake Windermere, with views down to the water, it's the perfect gateway to this rugged corner of northern England. The house dates back to the Edwardian period, and you'll notice the handsome stonework and imposing silhouette as soon as you arrive. However, the open-plan living space is ultra-modern, with huge windows and a sleek dining table perfect for feasting. There's also a cinema room, where you can watch your favourite blockbusters, and a more formal living room that's ideal for cocktail hour. I you're visiting during the warmer months, you can make full use of the wonderful outdoor space too – grown-ups can gather around the fire pit, while the little ones run wild on the lawn and play in the tree house. A short stroll will bring you down to the banks of Lake Windermere, where you can enjoy a long walk or hop on a boat for a tour. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice, with countless trails leading through the surrounding landscapes. And, once you've finished exploring, you can head to the... local pub for a well-deserved pint of local ale by the fire.
