Everyone loves a home with a story, and this former coastguard's cottage overlooking Torbay must have many. It's been standing here on the clifftop since the 18th Century, just steps from the seven-acre nature reserve of Daddyhole Plain. Complete with the old 'coastguard hammer', once used to wake the men when needed at sea, it's been through a careful and stylish renovation lately – resulting in a stunning home in a knockout location. Entering through the tile-floored lobby, you first come to the open-plan living and dining room. With modern, comfy furnishings, crisp white walls and a log burner, it's an absolute delight and flooded with natural light. A sleek, contemporary kitchen is perfectly practical for meals at home and you'll have a choice of outdoor spots to enjoy – a courtyard garden at the rear and a south-facing terrace at the front. Upstairs, the bedrooms are beautifully styled and some boast sea views. Well-placed for exploring nearby Torquay and the English Riviera, it's perfect for families, and the ability to let them run loose just outside on the Plain is a god-send for those with young children. And keen walkers will love this location too – the South West Coast Path... is just ahead of you.
