Once a place to rest up horses in days gone by, this stone building has since been converted into a holiday home for those visiting the East Riding of Yorkshire. The redesign is smart and simple, if a little cookie-cutter in scope. The white walls and grey wooden floor lend a sense of brightness, while the blue corner kitchen is both well-equipped and decently sized for when you're in the mood to flex your culinary muscles. When it comes to the rest of the living quarters, we don't have any complaints, nor are we singing its praises from the highest rooftops either. Perhaps we are being too negative, so we'll highlight two big perks. The first is the pretty Mediterranean-style courtyard centred around a 200-year-old olive tree, although this is shared with the nine other cottages that line the sides. The home's excellent location is another big plus-point, seeing as it puts you a short drive from a wide range of charming local attractions, from Danes Dyke Beach and the seaside town of Bridlington to the path running around the cliffs of the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast.

About Filey
At the tip of horse-shoe shaped Filey Bay, the town of Filey sits on the shore of a long sandy beach. The calm shallows invite days of paddling in the sea on a hot summer’s day, and the promenade, lined with bay-windowed Edwardian townhouses, is perfect for strolling. It’s the kind of seaside town where hands are kept delightfully sticky with ice-cream run-off and suncream, and traditional fish and chips...
