Deep in the Cretan countryside, surrounded by rugged mountains, fragrant flowers and Mediterranean shrubbery, this rustic home makes the most of its rural setting. You don't often get views like this, so take a moment to appreciate the panoramas from the many terraces. Mornings call for coffee and fresh fruit – maybe even a mimosa if you're feeling fancy – before heading down to the plunge pool for a dip in the sunshine. Later on, as the day slowly comes to an end, get together for a barbecue and watch the stars pop out over the mountaintops. Even inside, the scenery is front and centre, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. With its vaulted timber ceilings and exposed stone walls, the living area feels like a great hall in the days of old – and the open-plan layout means you can chill out on the sofa, convene around the table and cook up a storm without missing a beat in the conversation.
