The first thing that caught our eye stepping into this apartment was the sparkling chandelier, a real statement above the long dining table. The huge, open-plan living area is awash with natural light thanks to big, warehouse-sized windows – typical of the centre of New Orleans. Each bedroom feels just as sleek and stylish as the living area, some with laptop-friendly desks for those that need to work remotely. There’s a full kitchen too, should you fancy a meal in, but there are so many restaurants and bars on your doorstep, you might never need it. This place is just a ten-minute stroll from the buzzing Bourbon Street, where neon signs advertise whisky holes and jazz bars galore – this is where Mardi Gras really takes hold when it comes to town. From here, you can weave into the pretty streets of the French Quarter for cajun cuisine or perhaps a horse and carriage ride.

You’ll find indigenous cuisine here that hybridizes Caribbean, African and European influences – so embrace your inner hedonist and dive head first into Gumbo, beignets and po’ boys. It’s a city where jazz is as prevalent...
