Make the great escape to this charming coastal lodge set in the postcard-pretty village of Scalby, fringing the archetypal seaside resort of Scarborough. Elegantly styled throughout, there's no need to tussle for the best room here. Upstairs, each bedroom feels as luxurious as the next, with quiet desk nooks for those planning to work or study during their stay. But this home really comes into its own in the vast living spaces back downstairs. You can expect to do some entertaining here with two dining areas to choose from. Lay the table for glamorous suppers and games nights in the dedicated dining room. Keep things casual with lazy brunches (mimosa, anyone?) in the light-filled sunroom with the garden doors open wide. Or take things outside to savour morning coffees on the furnished garden terrace fringed by manicured lawns – the village newsagents is just a stroll away to pick up the papers. When the sea finally lures you, Scarborough's four sandy bays are just a two-and-a-half mile drive away for bucket and spade days. Our vote goes to North Bay, with its golden sandy shores and chalet-lined promenade – it's just like you imagined. And there's always lashings of fish and chips... and ice creams when tummies rumble. Or swing by Scalby's gastro pub within stumbling distance of your home – you'll be sure of a warm welcome.

About Scarborough
Scarborough’s natural spa waters and beach-side location have been drawing in tourists since the 18th century. Indeed, it claims to be Britain’s first seaside resort, and few things have changed since the pier and Victorian spa first opened. You’ll still find a bustling hive of retro amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and ice cream parlours serving knickerbocker glories on the South Bay promenade, where a cliffside tramway still ferries...
