Step back to the 18th century at this beautiful old Tuscan villa. It’s just outside the medieval city of Lucca and a five-minute drive sees you in the historic old town where ancient towers and cobbled streets await. Apart from a few fellow villas dotting the countryside, the view here is of Tuscany’s forest-clad hills and a fringe of ancient oaks and cypresses hides the sprawling private grounds from view. Breathe in the scent of Mediterranean herbs from the patio where a long table allows big group dinners – particularly spectacular when the sunset bathes the surrounding hills in golden light. Vast, terraced lawns stretch before you and are dotted with chairs and tables for quiet moments to yourself. It’s a vision of old-world splendour inside as a huge chandelier twinkles above the dining table. Two lounge areas sit beneath the old, wooden ceilings and the ancient stone hearth remains intact from this building’s heyday. The dine-in kitchen harks back to the days of farmhouse cooking. Shelves, dark wood dressers and mantelpieces are dotted with botanica and knick-knacks from all over the world. We love each themed bedroom, decorated with botanical prints and historic maps.
