Filled with personal artwork and trinkets, Science Fiction is extremely characterful. It’s the kind of home where you feel like you get to know the host, even though he’s not around. It also has high ceilings, beautiful stucco detailing, and a hammock for lazy days. The immediate area is full of things to do. Østerbro is incredibly family-friendly, especially if you’re looking for lovely green parks, artisanal bakeries, and charming restaurants.

There’s no place like home… Until you’ve stayed in Master of Light that is. Casual luxury at its finest, it’s Copenhagen at its best. The location is extraordinary – you’re right besides Nyhavn, the city’s most famous postcard motif. And we can’t get over the design. Alexander clearly has a passion for Danish design, with works by Bang & Olufsen and Hans J. Wegner adorning every corner. There’s also a fantastic rooftop terrace with a nine-person hot tub, sun beds and a lounge arrangement, plus fantastic views of Copenhagen's historic buildings.

Locations really don’t get much better than this. It's rare to find a property this close by to the picture-perfect Nyhavn district, with its brightly coloured gabled townhouses. Find a sunny spot outside at a quayside café or hop on a boat for one of the many canal tours that start here. As the evening draws in, take a pre-dinner stroll along the waterfront, then duck into one of the many restaurants and bars that line the canal.  You could call in on the Queen too, she lives just around the corner. And when it’s finally time to retreat inside, you’ll find a contemporary place that invites you to be social. The communal area is the heart of the home, offering plenty of space for your tribe to hang out, cook, and eat. The industrial-style windows flood natural light through the apartment by day, while the plush velvet curtains allow privacy at night when it’s time for some shut-eye.

Located on the third floor of a historic building without a lift, there is plenty of space for a group of nine to relax after a day of exploring. It’s worth noting there is only one bathroom here, but it's ideal for remote workers with dedicated desk space and families will appreciate the children’s amenities available for an additional fee. From here, it’s just a short stroll to the bars and restaurants of Nyhavn, while shops and historic sights are also within walking distance.

We love the homey comforts on offer here, from the sheepskin throws to the inviting Scandi and vintage furnishings and the large windows proferring fourth-floor views over the city’s rooftops. Our favourite spot is the private balcony with its views of Christiansborg’s spire. Sit here with your morning coffee while soaking up the fresh air or gather at the elegant dining table with the French doors open to enjoy the warmth and cosiness of your home. With plenty of curios decking the shelves, original artwork, a record player to serenade your evenings and a beautiful antique bureau on which to catch up on work, you’re all set for a relaxing time here, whether for business or pleasure. Factor in the luxurious Hästens bed for a dreamy night’s sleep and you may never leave your comfortable home. When you do, however, you’ll be wowed by the countless sights within easy reach on foot, including the Kongens Nytorv (seven minutes), Strøget’s upscale shops and indie boutiques (twelve minutes) and the Tivoli Gardens (fifteen minutes).

It's worth noting there's only one bathroom here, and four guests will be sharing the last bedroom – fine for family sharing, but it won't suit everyone. Expect street noise from time to time, too – but that's all part and parcel of central Copenhagen living.

Centrally located and chicly styled, this apartment ticks all of our boxes. You'll be based in lively Indre By, just a short walk from Nyhavn's colourful harbour and Strøget's many shops. But even better than the location is the private roof terrace back home. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a Danish beer and admire the city views. Indoors, the pared-back interiors feature natural elements and lots of light. The kitchen isn't the biggest and there is some adult-themed artwork, but otherwise, it's a cosy option in the heart of the city.

A Viking Hideaway

This Copenhagen bolthole may be pocket-sized, but it would work well for two friends or colleagues looking for a central base to lay their heads. There's little space for socialising, with no living room to speak of. But each bedroom has a cushy chair and the dining banquette in the compact kitchen is a cosy spot for breakfast, and the bakery nearby will keep the pastries flowing. Outside, Nyhavn's buzzy cafes and restaurants are just around the corner. Kongens Nytorv Metro Station is also within easy reach, ready for you to blaze a trail across the city.

When it's time to explore the city, you won't have to travel far to take in Copenhagen's best sites. The cobbled Kongens Nytorv square is barely a five-minute walk away, and from here Nyhavn's colourful waterfront is another short hop. Enjoy lunch with a waterfront view, then meander through the characterful streets towards Christianshavn, a unique network of small islands. This is the place to be if you're a fan of street art and intimate music venues.

Situated just one street from The Lakes, this penthouse apartment is perfectly positioned for waterfront strolls, coffees and drinks. This modern Scandi-style apartment is ideal for groups wanting to maximise their time both out and in, with a central location and a contemporary sociable space. If you’re visiting as a group of eight, two guests will sleep on the living area sofa bed, so you might need to call it early some nights. But then again, with plenty of bars and concert venues nearby, we’re sure you'll spend your evenings out experiencing the Copenhagen culture.

We love this studio apartment's location – it's steps away from Amager Strand. So, if you like to swim in the sea, kite surf or go for long walks on the beach, this is the place for you. The National Aquarium of Denmark is also just minutes away. The proximity to the airport and a metro station that takes you into the city centre in six minutes makes it ideal for tourists and business travellers alike. Back at this home's development, there's a shared gym, or relax on the king-sized bed in the apartment (there's no sofa or living room here). Yes, the kitchen is quite compact, but it does have an oven and hob, so you can still cook some Danish delicacies.

Sunlit Oasis

Just a five-minute walk from this apartment will take you to the City Hall Square and the central station. It's the same walking distance to Tivoli Gardens, a magical theme park with a century-old wooden roller coaster, gardens and restaurants. As with the rides at Tivoli, this apartment has some ups and downs – let's start with the good points. There's a shared garden perfect for beers in the summer, and the apartment itself is spacious. To enter the second bedroom, though, you will need to go through the third bedroom. This room doesn't have any windows but borrows light via French doors into the adjacent room, so privacy is also an issue – it’s probably fine for the kids, we would say.

With the Queen Margrethe as your next-door neighbour, it’s no wonder that the two-bedroom home has a grandiose and illustrious feel. A bohemian atmosphere meets Japanese zen in this striking home. We particularly love all the original features including the wooden beams, exposed brick walls (and even the creaky floors), which mix beautifully with the hosts’ collection of books and vintage furniture. Since the apartment was renovated in 2013, it has been featured in several lifestyle magazines for its charming design aesthetic. Spread across three floors, unique quirks include the rather rustic ladders that take you up to the second and third floors. Curl up in a cosy corner with a book in hand and live the scene of what seems like it could be a fictional dream. Alongside world literature, the host also supplies guests with access to gym equipment, should you wish to keep up with your fitness routine while visiting Copenhagen. Around the apartment, the immediate area feels very local – the Christianshavn canals are just two minutes away, and so are plenty of restaurants. All in all, it's safe to say that this home is perfectly out of the ordinary.

Split across two levels with a wooden ladder connecting the two, this two-bedroom home is ideal for younger travellers looking to be right in the centre of Copenhagen. Even though it lacks in entertainment options, you’ll not have to worry about finding things to do because The Conrad is situated in a repurposed office building on top of Strøget, Copenhagen’s busiest shopping street.

Kongens Have (The King's Garden) is a short stroll away, as is the city’s largest square Kongens Nytorv, home to the Royal Theatre. Housed in a building constructed in 1958, this apartment is ideal for friends or family looking for an excellent location. It sleeps up to six guests with two people sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room at full capacity. We should also mention that your hosts also provide free access to the local gym if you want to keep up your fitness regime while away.

Danish Design

Set in Copenhagen's design district, with happening art galleries and wander-worthy antique shops all within walking distance, it's no wonder this apartment's central location is a huge highlight. While the listed apartment building's exteriors are charming, the home's minimalist interiors aren't overly characterful and a little unconventional in places. Expect high ceilings in the living area, compact bedrooms with quirky internal windows, and a pocket-sized kitchen better suited to breakfasts and lighter bites. But with a bakery next door and restaurants aplenty close by, we don't think you'll mind.

Timeless Treasure

This city-centre apartment is seriously chic – we absolutely loved its minimalist Scandi vibes. The communal area is open and bright, offering plenty of space for all six guests to hang out together. There are thoughtful touches like vintage illustrated posters hanging on the wall above comfortable furniture from New Scandinavian Design maestros, Bolia. The glass-walled bedrooms are definitely a novel touch and create a strong impact. They certainly won't be to everyone's taste, but all have velvet curtains to pull across for some privacy when needed. With views onto Copenhagen's main shopping street, Strøget, you couldn't be better placed to hit the luxury boutiques and independent shops when the mood takes you. Plus, you're not far from the colourful waterside bars and restaurants of Nyhavn or the high culture of the Royal Danish Theatre – a little over a five-minute walk away.

Silver Bear

Located right in the heart of Copenhagen, this eco-friendly apartment hits all the right notes when it comes to ease and simplicity. Outside, it’s a short stroll to Kongens Have and Kongens Nytorv. There are great public transport links and paid parking is available at a location nearby. Minimalists will appreciate the simple details of this apartment. It’s also family-friendly with space across two floors to stretch out and unwind. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area but this works nicely for larger groups.

Wake up and prepare a coffee and Danish pastry in the sleek high-spec kitchen, then glide outside for a leisurely breakfast in the sun. After a morning of lounging in the homely living space, head downstairs and step straight into the city centre.

The widely photographed Nyhavn harbour, flanked by colourful buildings, is just a five-minute walk away. Enjoy lunch with a view before venturing to nearby Christiansborg Palace, a 12th-century structure that houses the government – you can also peruse its impressive collection of artwork. Indulge in some light shopping in the atmospheric Strøget area, and remember to pick up a bottle of wine to enjoy on your balcony once you wind your way back home.

We think this home's location has the best of both worlds. It's just steps away from Amager Strand, perfect for a swim in the sea or long walks on the beach. Yet, the city centre can be reached in six minutes via Copenhagen's speedy metro system. Back at this home, there's a gym to keep up your fitness regime, or relax on the king-sized bed. While the bedroom is separate, this apartment is more like a studio as there's no sofa or living room here. The kitchen area is also quite compact, but it has an oven and hob. This place is the ideal base for a couple or solo traveller or those on business.

Sunlit Haven

This home has gone all-in on the bold and clean design aesthetic. While it might feel a bit sparse to those who prefer personal touches, the Danes don't mess about when it comes to clean lines and functionality. The bedrooms have a bright and open feel, with the master enjoying direct access to a shared outdoor space, while the second bedroom boasts some ornate wood panelling as a nod to the age of the building. It's seriously central, making it an excellent base for exploring the city on foot. With a view of Strøget (Copenhagen's main pedestrianised shopping area), you couldn't be better placed to spend some of those krone burning a hole in your pocket in all the uber-chic boutiques. Sample some of Copenhagen's history by visiting the Rundetaarn – the oldest functioning observatory in Europe is a five-minute walk – while Nyhavn's many waterside eateries are ten minutes away.

If you're looking for amusement on your city break, how about this home? It's just around the corner from Tivoli Gardens, a theme park with a century-old wooden roller coaster. If you're not after an adrenaline rush, gardens and fantastic restaurants are also nearby. Like the park rides, this apartment has many highs and a few lows. The lift takes you right to the top floor, and we love the characteristic beams. At full capacity, though, there's only one bathroom between eight people – you’d better work out a rota for the mornings.

Begin your mornings wandering along the canal, coffee in hand as you bask in the picturesque scenery. Grab a pastry then stroll towards Christianhavn, one of the upbeat and flourishing hubs of the capital city. Here you'll find hip bars and eating spots to mingle with the locals. Stroget, Copenhagen's busy retail district, is the place to be if you want to immerse yourself in the city's shopping culture. Chic boutiques selling ultra-stylish clothing coexist with iconic stores – it caters to every fashion sense. For higher-end couture, Magasin Du Nord showcases the on-trend items.

However you spend your day in the Danish capital, the snug tranquillity of the home acts as a restful haven after a day of walking the cobbled streets. As expected for an 18th-century Copenhagen home, the layout of this large and oh-so-stylish studio is a little kooky. One bedroom with a handy desk nook is tucked into the eaves on a mezzanine, so it's not the most private of spaces. The living area, which houses a sofa bed for two guests, forms part of the main bedroom. And while the balcony is a bonus, it's pocket-sized. But you can't quibble with the location. Set slap bang in the middle of Indre By, you're within walking distance of all the city's must-sees. Get off to a flying start at the shopping mecca of Strøget – it's right outside your door. Just note that this is a central, noisy area – light sleepers may want to pack earplugs.

This penthouse apartment is located right on Strøget, the main pedestrian street in Copenhagen, making it ideal for visitors who want to explore the city on foot. Climb up to the top of the building and once you arrive, and you'll find a wonderfully light and welcoming space that's full of Scandi-style and designer furniture. The lovely kitchen and living space are great for socialising over some smørrebrødands and a glass of wine, and the gorgeous wooden floors and high windows add an extra level of charm. However, our favourite part of this home is the romantic little nook in the bay window where you can look out over the city's spires and rooftops. Back on ground level, you can stroll to Tivoli Gardens, the famous 19th Century amusement park, in less than ten minutes, while the iconic Nyhavn waterfront is a fifteen-minute walk away. 

The Olive Tree Loft

Set in a handsome building from 1791, you’ll be minutes from so many of Copenhagen’s best attractions. Both Amalienborg Castle and the Little Mermaid statue are a seven-minute walk away, while the picture-perfect harbour of Nyhavn is just fourteen minutes from home. Catch a glimpse of the stunning Opera house before heading to the neighbourhood’s Copenhagen Bicycles, where you can rent bikes and get around like locals. When you’re back at home you’ll enjoy a luminous and inviting living space with high ceilings and large windows. The furniture is stylish and sleek – Scandi of course – while you’ll have all the essentials you need for a comfortable stay. Enjoy a morning coffee on the sofa looking out at the busy street, or gather around the dining table for breakfast. When it’s time for bed, the bedrooms are soothing with their grey colour palettes, soft linens and plush pillows that ensure a good night of rest.

Parallelogram is sophisticated in that Scandi chic way that we just love. It elegantly blends wooden furniture, green plants and photos taken by the host himself to form a modern minimalist home with plenty of charm. You are a five-minute walk from Nyhavn and all of its cultural attractions. If you feel like experiencing the city in a different way, you can also sit down on the sunny balcony with a cup of coffee and watch Copenhageners go about their day.

Parallelogram

Pictionary is just a five-minute walk away from Copenhagen’s Central station, which means that you’re very well-connected. Vesterbro is also lovely, especially if you’re looking to sample some new restaurants or coffee shops – or want to be in walking distance to Tivoli and Rådhuspladsen. It’s not the most characterful home on our books, but we like that it feels welcoming and bright. The kitchen is definitely the highlight – it’s large, modern, and well-equipped for cooking. 

Pictionary

Situated in the heart of Copenhagen, this apartment provides a perfectly practical space for groups visiting the city. Tivoli Gardens is less than a ten-minute walk away, while nearby Ørstedsparken is a great spot for escaping the city buzz. The master bedroom can be set up with twin single beds upon request and the double sofa bed adds flexibility. Just keep in mind that the second bedroom is partly open to the living area, so it lacks some privacy. Otherwise, the two large bathrooms will help to speed mornings along, so you can head out and spend more time exploring all that the Danish capital has to offer. 

City Explorer

Modern, minimalist and powered by renewable energy, this apartment guarantees a stress-free stay in Denmark’s capital city. The heart of Indre By is easily accessible by foot, and the Marmorkirken metro station is a ten-minute walk away. As there is not enough comfortable seating for a group of five, we recommend this place for groups who are always on the go. The kitchen, however, is fully equipped with everything you need for home cooking, and your host can arrange cleaning services for an additional fee.

Essence of Denmark

In the heart of Copenhagen, this central pad is a great base for those exploring the city. The popular Strøget shopping district is on your doorstep, with restaurants, bars and boutiques within easy reach. And for sightseeing ventures across town, the Rådhuspladsen Metro stop is a five-minute walk away. Back home, the design is contemporary rather than charming, while the quiet courtyard is a nice bonus. The sofa bed adds flexibility for larger groups and the dining table doubles up as a handy workspace, but do keep in mind that some street noise should be expected here. 

Old Town Retreat

Positively brimming with colour and personality, this funky pad is Danish hygge at its best. It also oozes character, thanks to Sophie, our host, being a psychology student/painter – and showcasing many of her own vibrant artworks throughout the flat. She also offers an extensive fashion and art book collection for guests to choose from, plus there's a lovely private balcony for a spot of afternoon reading. Enjoy meals in the quirky dining area, with chic lighting, Eames-influenced chairs and brickwork wallpaper, that creates an industrial-styled space. Splashes of colour are painted on the home's blank canvas of wooden floors and whitewashed walls to make for a modern and artsy apartment that really packs a punch. In true Copenhagen fashion, the bathroom isn’t luxurious (it’s actually rather small), but we’re willing to look past that as the rest of the home is so charming. Outside, Frederiksberg is on the fancier side, so it’s especially ideal for someone who craves a bit of peace and quiet. You'll find upscale shops, boutiques and gourmet restaurants aplenty nearby, and you're within a five-minute walk from the Aksel Møllers Have metro station, connecting you to the rest of this ever-emerging city. 

Modern Art

Nestled in the heart of Copenhagen, this apartment is ideal for a couple’s retreat. A mere five-minute walk will take you to Tivoli, and you'll also find the inner city lakes on your doorstep when you fancy a fresh-air stroll. While it can sleep up to four people, two guests will draw the short straw and be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area. With the bedroom separated from the main living space with a glass partition, it lacks some privacy, so we think it’s a home best suited to families. There’s no oven here, but with the apartment’s enviable location you’ll find eateries on your doorstep, so dining out is a breeze.

The word “wow” came up a few times when we visited this place… A former coal crane located in Nordhavnen (the old industrial harbour area), it’s an incredibly special place that offers an out-of-this-world experience. Set up for pampered living in exceptional surroundings, it consists of three levels of unique luxury. One with your living quarters – the bed is heavenly. Another with a huge meeting room and bathroom – the bathtubs have some of the best views we’ve ever come across. And two terraces – one for enjoying magnificent sunsets, the other tailor-made for sunrises.
