As the sun sets, enjoy socialising over some sangria on the covered terrace. This villa is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the coastline. With three popular beaches, including the sandy El Arenal just a short drive away.

This spacious villa is located within a residential beach area in the coastal town of Javea, Costa Blanca. Spread across one floor, it's a great option for larger groups of friends or family who want a self-catered stay that's close to the sea. It's not the most luxurious home – the decor is quite basic – but it's clean and bright with a fully-equipped kitchen. We love the large outdoor area which can be easily accessed from the open-plan living room. The private swimming pool is a good size and there are BBQ facilities for guests to use too. You'll find plenty of local amenities and attractions nearby but if you want to explore further afield then we suggest a car for ease.

Set far enough back from Arenal beachfront to avoid the hustle and bustle, yet with the sandy shores a mere five-minute walk away, this apartment treats you to the best of both worlds. While the view from the private balcony is out onto the road and apartments opposite, you can still enjoy a peek of the sea. It’s also a nice spot for an evening glass of sangria. And if you need to cool off but don’t fancy the beach, the communal pool is just the ticket for a refreshing dip.

Only five kilometres from the historic centre of Javea, this pet-friendly home offers an excellent base for groups staying on the Costa Blanca. Outdoors, you'll sunbathe beneath palm trees and serve Spanish-style barbecues by the pool. With parking space for two cars, day trips to the nearby natural parks are made easy, but how about exploring the Cova dels Òrguens sea caves instead? Though the closest Playa de Cala Ambolo is a nudist beach, traditional alternatives await between the Mediterranean miradors.

This is a villa that will have even the most hard-to-please guests grinning. A lot of that is down to its fabulous views of the glistening Mediterranean and Isla del Portitxol, but special praise also goes to the peaceful swimming pool surrounded by treetops and the covered terrace complete with an alfresco dining table. Although some of the bathrooms are a little dated, we've only got kind words for the three-level layout – we particularly love the main bedroom with a sea-facing balcony. To top it all off, you don't have far to venture for beautiful gold-sand beaches, either.

Sharp lines and clean spaces characterise this modern home, from the cavernous living room with its all-cream furniture and UFO-shaped skylights to the bright bedrooms. Artwork, in stark contrast, is bold with huge colourful prints hung in each room. We won't be surprised if you miss all those details, however, as it's the views that will have you enraptured. Looking out over the Mediterranean ocean, the home has floor-to-ceiling windows for uninterrupted panoramas – from the master bed when you wake up to your mid-afternoon soak in the standalone bathtub. Head out for a closer inspection, with a blue infinity pool to make you feel like you're floating, while the upstairs balcony is unbeatable for watching the sunset.

Thankfully, there are lots of outdoor amenities that bump it up the pecking order. Add to that a communal swimming pool back down at ground level, plus Arenal Beach only two hundred metres from the front door, and it's never been easier to bask in the Mediterranean's glorious climate.

Ideally located a ten-minute walk from Platja de l'Arenal, this boho-chic is all about beach days and relaxing in style. Linen, wood, wicker and concrete make up the interiors, creating a calming environment that’s a pleasure to spend time in. Two balconies call for mornings to be spent outside – tuck into your breakfast accompanied by views overlooking the glittering Mediterranean or puzzle over a crossword as you idly sip an espresso. 

In the afternoon, float about in the cool water of the communal pool. Or why not jump in the car and explore Spain’s southeastern coast? Head into Dénia for a trip back in time at the Archaeological Museum followed by a sunbathing session on the soft sands of Platja de les Marines.

Not far from the golden sand beaches and secret coves of Costa Blanca, this home is a slice of serenity on the Spanish coast. There are several good restaurants within easy walking distance, but with such a peaceful location, we prefer to stock up on local goodies and feast while seated on the wrought-iron furniture back at the home.

If you're looking for a quintessentially Spanish coastal retreat with all of the sangria and sunshine that comes with it, look no further than this gorgeous two-storey villa. Located in La Colina, you're a couple of kilometres from the vast sandy beach and crystalline waters of Platja de l'Arenal, but that's if you can peel yourself away from this achingly beautiful home. 

Days begin outside, with an iced coffee on the sun terrace, overlooking the scenic natural landscape and planning the day's agenda. It will most likely continue with a few leisurely laps of the pool before picking out a lounger to while away the hours. When lunchtime arrives, fire up the barbecue and tuck into a group feast on the terrace. You're well catered for when it comes to alfresco areas – including several day beds and covered seating space for the entire party to sprawl out and unwind. 

Inside, you'll find a comfortable living room where wood beams and tiled flooring shape the space as a whole, while homespun furnishings and a Scandinavian wood stove keep things cosy. The sandy shores of Granadella, with its seafront restaurants, are just a flip-flop away. A great choice for friends or couples sharing, each bedroom offers direct access to the top-floor balconies, so there's no need to tussle for the best room. While that private pool and sun-kissed terrace for alfresco barbecues are all about socialising. It’s worth noting that while the hillside setting is magnificent, you’ll need to navigate a steep driveway. However, there’s roadside parking for the less confident drivers out there.

A ten-minute drive from the centre of Javea, this charming villa offers sun, relaxation and access to Spain’s beautiful Costa Blanca. Golf courses, horseriding and hiking in the hills are all on offer from your doorstep. While the furnishings aren’t the most modern – plastic chairs outside and a fairly sparse living area inside – the peaceful location is what drew us to this villa. Plus, the swimming pool is vast, there’s a charm to the living room with its traditional fireplace and the kitchen has everything you need for self-catering.  

A Twist of Time

Jutting out on the coast, between Alicante and Valencia, the region of Cap Martí offers rugged coastlines, marinas, and rocky shores with panoramic views. While you might want to simply gaze out from one of the many miradors, small towns are also peppered across the area. This Adsubia home is just an eleven-minute drive from beaches like Platja del Portixol, but you don’t even need to go that far to relax in the water.

As soon as you arrive, it’s hard to ignore the huge private pool set on an elevated terrace, surrounded by an elegant balustrade. In these vast grounds, you can also wander through the lawns of your lush garden, where colourful native flowers climb stone walls and palms sway in the breeze.

If it gets too hot, sip chilled local wine under the shaded terrace.
