This modern villa is the perfect retreat for those looking for a restful break. You’re a little further removed from the touristy areas here, which means you can really unwind. We recommend hiring a car or two to make the most of your time here – there are golf courses and beaches to discover. There’s plenty of room for you to spend time together at the villa, though two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room – it’s still a comfy spot. We love the terrace for alfresco dining, and the private pool is sure to please.

This coastal pet-friendly apartment has a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with one of Guardamar's golden sandy beaches right on your doorstep. The furnishings are a little dated, and we think the place could do with an update, but being on the fifth floor ensures you'll have lovely views. We recommend having a car here for day trips up to the cities of Alicante or Elche, but Centre Beach, as well as Guardamar's local shops, cafes and restaurants, are all within walking distance.

In the hills above the Costa Brava, this traditional villa is sure to impress with its antique interiors. From the chandeliers to the open fireplace, this house is full of surprises. This extends to the garden, where you'll find a swimming pool hidden among the trees. Alongside the main house, there's a casita ideal for kids and a wooden lodge for those wanting extra privacy – though some people will sleep on sofa beds. Our favourite is the summer kitchen, where all twenty-three guests can tuck into tapas together. The pool will also be a big hit, even if there are only eight loungers. Location-wise, you'll be 22 kilometres from the beach in Guardamar del Segura. Also within driving distance is Alicante if you want to explore further afield.

If you're looking for your own tropical paradise to take the family to, then look no further than this gorgeous Spanish home. Set on a huge plot of land, you'll have the freedom to roam around the beautifully tranquil patio and garden areas surrounding the villa. It won't take you long to be swimming in the Meditteranean – Guardamar del Segura beach is only 13km away. Trips into the city of Murcia are a must too. It's not too far by car, and when you're there, you'll be able to wander its historic streets and admire its beautiful architecture. Murcia is a great day out for the whole family.

There's always the chance of hearing some noise from neighbours, so if you're a light sleeper it may be worth packing earplugs. With a communal garden, the sea right on your doorstep and the whole of Altea to explore by car, you can't get much closer to the action.

This is a villa that will have even the most hard-to-please guests grinning. A lot of that is down to its fabulous views of the glistening Mediterranean and Isla del Portitxol, but special praise also goes to the peaceful swimming pool surrounded by treetops and the covered terrace complete with an alfresco dining table. Although some of the bathrooms are a little dated, we've only got kind words for the three-level layout – we particularly love the main bedroom with a sea-facing balcony. To top it all off, you don't have far to venture for beautiful gold-sand beaches, either.

We think families will have a blast here – your host can provide a free cot to make travelling with little ones a breeze, though children will need supervision around the unfenced infinity pool. It's plain to see that somebody with a real eye for design has worked their magic on this townhouse found in the coastal town of Calp. Everywhere you look inside, there are tasteful touches, from the dining table made from a repurposed door and the unashamedly bright colours on the walls to the sheer range of objets d'art dotted about the home.

We're also happy to say that there's plenty of substance behind this style. The sleek black kitchen not only looks the part, but it's also well-equipped for whipping up a feast. We're also fond of the terrace, which has views out over the rooftops and verdant hillsides beyond.

When you're ready to get to know the locale a little better, you'll be surprised at how much there is to see. All of three minutes' walk from the home is Torreó de la Peça, the centuries-old defensive walls built to protect the town from marauders. Arena-Bol beach is a ten-minute walk, while further along the coastline, it's possible to head up to the top of Penyal d'Ifac in just over an hour on foot for some incredible views.

Sitting just 100 metres from Platja de l'Olla on the Costa Blanca, this apartment offers a comfortable coastal break with plenty of sun-soaking opportunities in store. A private lawn with a shaded patio is the highlight of the home itself, with access to the outdoors from the living area and main bedroom. While the decor isn’t the most exciting in our collection, the home nonetheless benefits from a communal pool area – as well as a children’s pool for little ones – and beautifully manicured gardens with sea views. You’ll also find bars and the promenade within 500 metres, Altea within 2 kilometres, not to mention plenty of outdoor activities on hand nearby, including hiking, cycling, kayaking, fishing, diving, snorkelling and waterskiing.
