This apartment is on one of Barcelona's most fashionable boulevards, close to Las Ramblas and the late-night tapas bars of the Gothic Quarter. Passeig de Gràcia with its shops, restaurants and bars, is just a five-minute walk away. It's clear that Gingerbread Cinder was designed by a professional – original vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls are a challenge to pull off, but these guys succeeded using minimal, high-quality furniture. This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. This grand apartment is a rare city find, with its ornate interiors, picturesque terrace and central location. It’s an ideal spot if you’re visiting as a large group, with sharing-style bedrooms and a large living room for enjoying post-sightseeing drinks. That said, the apartment is a little compact in areas, with the kitchen being better suited for light bites and the dining room only seating six or eight at most. Location-wise, Plaça Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia, and La Rambla are just a short walk away.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Two balconies – one at the front and one at the back of this apartment – provide beautiful views of the neighbourhood and you can even see a little bit of the sea on sunny days. Just eight minutes from the Plaça de Catalunya on foot, this renovated home boasts a central location in the heart of Barcelona. You'll find it in the Eixample, tucked away in an elegant alleyway and offering a quiet refuge from the tourist hustle and bustle. Here, you're surrounded by a delightful array of boutiques and eateries and within walking distance of the main sights. Go shopping on Passeig de Gràcia, picnic in Ciutadella Park or marvel at the Sagrada Familia – all less than a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep. 

Inside, spacious rooms flaunt high ceilings, large windows and stylish decor, while contemporary amenities promise a want-for-nothing stay. We especially love the balcony. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

This flat's earthy tones and use of natural materials gives the space a warm and cosy vibe – and we adore every inch. Design-wise, the style here is rustic and a little bit bohemian, with rattan furniture, crochet artwork and swoon-worthy exposed brick walls. Everything you'll need is taken care of by your lovely hosts – the glossy kitchen has basic ingredients and cooking gear, the flatscreen comes equipped with Netflix and Apple TV services and the home manual is the most thorough one we've ever seen. And despite the shared lobby entrance being off a busy road, the apartment is sat at the back of the building and is relatively quiet, making it an excellent spot to relax, unwind and sprawl out after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, you'll find this flat in lively Eixample, a hub of cultural attractions, Gaudi architecture and high-end boutiques. The Cathedral of Barcelona is only a thirteen-minute walk, while Mercado de La Boqueria is ten minutes on foot – head there for fresh produce and local ingredients when you feel like cooking. Whether you want to grab brunch or stroll through a museum, people-watch in a square or dance the night away at a nightclub, this area is rife with adventure.

But that's not all it has to offer – the lovely hosts have made it their mission to compete with the architectural masterpieces in Eixample. A love for peacocks and flamingos is reflected in the many paintings and statues around this home, while the contrast between turquoise and pink is a dominant theme. Many of the design choices pay homage to traditional Catalan architecture and design, making this home more than just a comfortable place to stay. This residence is spread out over two wings, so it's ideal for a group of friends or extended family looking for some privacy. Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

Floating Cinder

One of several similar holiday apartments in the same building, this tastefully refurbished spot is in the heart of Barcelona, just 100 metres from Las Ramblas and a short walk from Plaza de Catalunya. The elegant living room includes a dining area and there’s a full kitchen for meals at home. We think the second bedroom would be best suited to children as there’s a pull-down bunk and it’s rather narrow. If you’re not using the sofa bed in the living room, this place feels particularly spacious and comfortable.

An oasis of calm in the heart of Barcelona, this stylish apartment is the perfect setting for a slow-paced city break. There’s plenty to love here, but we can’t talk about this home without immediately bringing up its gorgeous terrace which comes complete with outdoor seating and a private Jacuzzi. Head out here first thing in the morning to watch the sunrise or come together at the end of the day for a well-deserved aperitivo as night falls over the city’s rooftops.

It's not just the outside space that’s worth writing home about, though. Inside, traditional architecture combines with postmodern design to create stylish living spaces that you’ll be more than happy to linger in. Stretch out on the L-shaped sofa and indulge in a midday siesta or head downstairs for a relaxing swim in the pool followed by a quick session in the communal sauna. We don't know about you, but we can't think of a better way to spend the afternoon.

Rooftop Hideout

Comfy, modern, and effortlessly cool, this gorgeous apartment in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is the kind of home you’ll be itching to return to after a busy day in the city. We can’t quite put our finger on what makes this place so special, but it probably has something to do with its stylish interior, which was inspired by the works of Ricardo Bofill Leví, one of Catalonia’s most celebrated architects. 

Spend all day unwinding in the open-plan living area or head downstairs for a quick workout in the communal gym before setting off to see what the city has to offer. From Barceloneta Beach to Plaça Reial, all the major attractions are within touching distance here, and we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to make the most of it. Soak up the gorgeous architecture of Barcelona Cathedral, head to Port Vell for a seafood feast with your fellow guests, or get a cab to Eixample where you’ll find plenty of places to dance the night away. 

Postmodern Paradise

When your home is just a three-minute walk from the dragon-like facade of Casa Batlló, you can certainly say that you’re in the heart of Gaudí’s Barcelona. Inside, colour and decor work together to create a playful and quirky vibe. The bright green shutters on the French doors certainly look traditional, but contrast tastefully with modern interiors. Similarly, we love the minimalist furniture in the kitchen and living space, juxtaposed with busy, patterned feature wallpaper. Situated on one of the main veins of the city, this apartment is more than convenient. Sightseeing is easy from this location, as well as from the home itself – the balconette stretches from the lounge to the bedroom, allowing ample space to look out to fantastic views. Down on the street, you can walk two minutes to the Passeig de Gràcia metro to get all around the city. A stop you should definitely make is the thirteen-minute train trip to the Sagrada Familia. Let yourself be overwhelmed by its beauty and detail, before wandering back through the decorative blocks of the city, stopping in for tapas and wine en route home.

Gold-leaf frames and marble finishings make for an upscale design at this flat in central Barcelona. It overlooks the iconic Passeig de Gràcia, a pedestrian avenue known for its array of shops, restaurants and bars. This busy and exciting district is the heartbeat of the city. Back up in this secluded apartment, which sits in a beautiful building, you'll find the tall ceilings and regal furniture will make you feel like royalty. Take lunch or dinner beneath the chandelier, and admire the works of art and views of the city. Watch the widescreen TV on the antique sofa and armchair, before climbing up to the mezzanine and retiring to bed. If you're staying up, head out to the Plaça de Catalunya just outside and enjoy the nightlife. 

The Majestic Passage

Located on Rambla Catalunya – Barcelona’s main shopping street – this apartment puts you in a prime position to explore the city’s many central bars, restaurants and boutiques. Given its spot in the heart of the action, you may need to contend with some street noise throughout your stay. But there’s plenty to appreciate inside, not least of all the pad’s private terrace – perfect for sunny breakfasts and evening glasses of wine. The decor isn’t the most inspiring here but a sizeable kitchen will be appreciated by chefs of the group. And the home’s locale close to Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Plaça de Catalunya makes sightseeing a cinch. 


The Palmate View

You’ll find this comfortable apartment on a leafy street in the Eixample district. Inside, there’s a laidback homespun charm with an eclectic selection of artwork and inviting soft furnishings. We loved the original brick and beam ceilings, as well as the double set of French doors in the living space, allowing for plenty of sunlight and a fresh Spanish breeze. Put together a charcuterie board in your kitchen and serve at the dining table or head out for tapas in your trendy locale. There’s a good spot three doors down, not to mention an endless array of bars, rustic tavernas and upscale restaurants within no more than a ten-minute saunter. The famous Passeig de Gracia with its high-end stores and feats of Modernist architecture is reached in less than ten minutes by foot. But should you fancy a break from the city heat, Barceloneta Beach is an eighteen-minute bus ride away.

If you're looking to stay in Eixample, then you might already know that it's filled with architectural masterpieces. Well, guess what – you'll be staying right around the corner from Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, which will make sightseeing effortless. At just a two- and eight-minute walk respectively, your apartment is a wonderful base for Gaudí fans. Unlike the striking architecture around you, the home interiors feel understated yet elegant. Overall it’s a modern vibe, with Scandinavian-style furniture. However, you will find hints of tradition from Catalan design features like decorative tiled floors and arched, wooden shuttered windows. Unwind on the leather sofa, or read your novel in the rattan chair in the lounge. Another excellent spot for relaxation is the private roof terrace with its outdoor sofa and dining table. We love the terracotta tiles and the spectacular views out to the modernist buildings of Barcelona. To make your time here extra special, your host can even arrange a private massage in the home, and of course offers a complimentary bottle of cava upon arrival. Salud!

The Congress of the Hundred

We love the way the sunshine streams into this smart, modern home on the corner of one of Barcelona's most exclusive streets. Set in a typical period building, but with clean, contemporary styling, it's a fabulous choice if you want to be at the very heart of this bustling city. The spacious, open-layout living room has views of Carrer de la Diputació and the Rambla de Catalunya, and it's just steps from some of the best bars, cafes and restaurants in Barcelona.

If you're cooking at home, your apartment has a fully kitted-out kitchen with a dining table for six, and if you're working from home there's a little desk in the corner of the room. Both bedrooms are bright and uncluttered, and they'd suit a small family as well as a group of friends – with a dedicated bathroom for each room.

Café Carajillo

An outdoor terrace is always a nice addition to a home regardless of the location, but in a sunny city like Barcelona, it's even more welcome. This apartment's large alfresco space complete with a shady pergola and a couple of loungers is sure to be appreciated during the height of summer.

We're happy to report that this address is far from a one-trick pony, however. There's a wealth of space inside and bountiful amounts of natural light from the large windows, which is allowed to flow through the interior thanks to the clever use of internal glass panels. Although the design is largely pared-back, there are a few characterful touches that caught our eye, including the patterned tiled flooring in the kitchen and the hanging egg chair in one of the bedrooms.

What's perhaps most impressive is that this large home isn't on the outskirts of the city, but a mere three minutes' walk from Plaça de Catalunya and the start of La Rambla. With Eixample just to the north here as well, you're never going to be short of galleries, restaurants or historic attractions within strolling distance of the front door.
