This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. In the Eixample district, eight minutes from Plaça de Catalunya, this flat offers an opulent stay in the city centre. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by style and sophistication – pristine tiled floors, a solid marble staircase, grand mahogany doors – and we’re only in the entrance hall of the building. Inside your home, a lavish theme continues. The furnishings are high-quality, modern pieces, and the colour scheme of the decor is rich and regal. We particularly love the deep crimson tiled bathroom and dark green feature walls. Pick up an art book from the shelf and have a flick through as you catch some rays on the balconette. From up here, the Urquinaona metro stop is so close you can almost see it – just one minute away, hop on to be whisked around the entire city. But there’s plenty to do on foot. See Gaudí’s masterpieces Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, a fifteen and twenty-minute walk respectively, on the elegant broadway of Passeig de Gràcia. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. There’s a lazy hammock in the corner too, so you can take in that rooftop view all the way to the Sagrada Familia. In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Similarly, we love the minimalist furniture in the kitchen and living space, juxtaposed with busy, patterned feature wallpaper. Situated on one of the main veins of the city, this apartment is more than convenient. Sightseeing is easy from this location, as well as from the home itself – the balconette stretches from the lounge to the bedroom, allowing ample space to look out to fantastic views. Down on the street, you can walk two minutes to the Passeig de Gràcia metro to get all around the city. A stop you should definitely make is the thirteen-minute train trip to the Sagrada Familia. Let yourself be overwhelmed by its beauty and detail, before wandering back through the decorative blocks of the city, stopping in for tapas and wine en route home.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars.

You can’t get much more central than this. Located moments from Plaça de Catalunya, this pad is the perfect spot for a large group. With two living rooms and two kitchens, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy privacy as well as social moments. The singles and loft-style bed will be handy for children sharing, and the home office is ideal for guests needing to work during their stay. When it comes to mealtimes, the kitchens are well-equipped, though there are endless vibrant tapas bars and restaurants on your doorstep.

Let's kick off with the location first with this home – it's fantastic. The apartment is within walking distance of Plaça de Catalunya and the Arc de Triomf, as well as all the restaurants and bars of Eixample. Culture lovers, on the other hand, can visit the nearby Picasso Museum and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. The apartment itself has a Juliet-style balcony with views over the La Rambla de Catalunya. We should point out that if you're a group of four, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the already compact living room. But that's probably a small price to pay for such a great address.

El Born is a bustling barrio of cafés, cocktails, and Catalan culture. Seconds from all the action, your home is located in a historical building with buckets of charm. We love the exposed brickwork and wooden beams of this original flat. These rustic structural features contrast beautifully with modern, understated furnishings and decor. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows open up on balconies overlooking the street, while cushy sofas and flowing curtains add softness to your surroundings. Up on the communal roof terrace, we recommend getting a cold drink and lying back in the sun loungers. This sunny spot is perfect for an iced coffee in the morning, or a chilled glass of wine in the evening. After relaxing up here, head down to street level to check out the bars and restaurants of El Born. It's also a fifteen-minute walk to the beach and just over five to the Parc de la Ciutadella. With the Barceloneta metro stop five minutes from home, the entire city is yours to explore. But if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by all the incredible options, your friendly host is here to help. Design-wise, the style here is rustic and a little bit bohemian, with rattan furniture, crochet artwork and swoon-worthy exposed brick walls. Everything you'll need is taken care of by your lovely hosts – the glossy kitchen has basic ingredients and cooking gear, the flatscreen comes equipped with Netflix and Apple TV services and the home manual is the most thorough one we've ever seen. And despite the shared lobby entrance being off a busy road, the apartment is sat at the back of the building and is relatively quiet, making it an excellent spot to relax, unwind and sprawl out after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, you'll find this flat in lively Eixample, a hub of cultural attractions, Gaudi architecture and high-end boutiques. The Cathedral of Barcelona is only a thirteen-minute walk, while Mercado de La Boqueria is ten minutes on foot – head there for fresh produce and local ingredients when you feel like cooking. Whether you want to grab brunch or stroll through a museum, people-watch in a square or dance the night away at a nightclub, this area is rife with adventure.

Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

There’s plenty to love here, but we can’t talk about this home without immediately bringing up its gorgeous terrace which comes complete with outdoor seating and a private Jacuzzi. Head out here first thing in the morning to watch the sunrise or come together at the end of the day for a well-deserved aperitivo as night falls over the city’s rooftops.

It's not just the outside space that’s worth writing home about, though. Inside, traditional architecture combines with postmodern design to create stylish living spaces that you’ll be more than happy to linger in. Stretch out on the L-shaped sofa and indulge in a midday siesta or head downstairs for a relaxing swim in the pool followed by a quick session in the communal sauna. We can’t quite put our finger on what makes this place so special, but it probably has something to do with its stylish interior, which was inspired by the works of Ricardo Bofill Leví, one of Catalonia’s most celebrated architects. 

Spend all day unwinding in the open-plan living area or head downstairs for a quick workout in the communal gym before setting off to see what the city has to offer. From Barceloneta Beach to Plaça Reial, all the major attractions are within touching distance here, and we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to make the most of it. Soak up the gorgeous architecture of Barcelona Cathedral, head to Port Vell for a seafood feast with your fellow guests, or get a cab to Eixample where you’ll find plenty of places to dance the night away.

We think it's a great choice for families – your host may be able to provide a cot and high chair if you're travelling with little ones, and well-behaved pets are welcome. The decor is a charming blend of original features from when the home was first built in 1910, along with more modern elements to make your stay comfortable and easy.

It overlooks the iconic Passeig de Gràcia, a pedestrian avenue known for its array of shops, restaurants and bars. This busy and exciting district is the heartbeat of the city. Back up in this secluded apartment, which sits in a beautiful building, you'll find the tall ceilings and regal furniture will make you feel like royalty. Take lunch or dinner beneath the chandelier, and admire the works of art and views of the city. Watch the widescreen TV on the antique sofa and armchair, before climbing up to the mezzanine and retiring to bed. If you're staying up, head out to the Plaça de Catalunya just outside and enjoy the nightlife.

One of several similar holiday apartments in the same building, this tastefully refurbished spot is in the heart of Barcelona, just 100 metres from Las Ramblas and a short walk from Plaza de Catalunya. The elegant living room includes a dining area and there’s a full kitchen for meals at home. We think the second bedroom would be best suited to children as there’s a pull-down bunk and it’s rather narrow. If you’re not using the sofa bed in the living room, this place feels particularly spacious and comfortable.

The Red Sky

This apartment offers a central location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and a practical pad to call your own. Just a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the various shops, restaurants and bars, you really couldn't be better placed for exploring the city. The home's bedrooms vary in size, with limited space so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think the modern design, which benefits from traditional Catalan touches, makes for a lovely home to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing. 

The Making of a City

You’ll find this comfortable apartment on a leafy street in the Eixample district. Inside, there’s a laidback homespun charm with an eclectic selection of artwork and inviting soft furnishings. We loved the original brick and beam ceilings, as well as the double set of French doors in the living space, allowing for plenty of sunlight and a fresh Spanish breeze. Put together a charcuterie board in your kitchen and serve at the dining table or head out for tapas in your trendy locale. There’s a good spot three doors down, not to mention an endless array of bars, rustic tavernas and upscale restaurants within no more than a ten-minute saunter. The famous Passeig de Gracia with its high-end stores and feats of Modernist architecture is reached in less than ten minutes by foot. But should you fancy a break from the city heat, Barceloneta Beach is an eighteen-minute bus ride away.
