Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located in Barcelona's 'it' neighbourhood El Born, you'll be within walking distance to the most famous sights, as well as local hidden gems.

In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Built with respect for the environment, this bright home is an ideal base for eco-conscious guests looking for a comfortable, central stay in the city. While the home dates back to 1900, it’s been brought into sparkling 21st-style with an interior that reflects eco-design principles and respects Catalan Modernism. High ceilings, mosaic tiles, wooden framed French doors and upcycled furnishings create a beautiful, minimalist impression in the open-plan living room with a cool wooden kitchenette and dining table inviting Spanish feasts aplenty. This apartment offers a central location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and a practical pad to call your own. Just a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the various shops, restaurants and bars, you really couldn't be better placed for exploring the city. The home's bedrooms vary in size, with limited space so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think the modern design, which benefits from traditional Catalan touches, makes for a lovely home to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing.

In the Eixample district, eight minutes from Plaça de Catalunya, this flat offers an opulent stay in the city centre. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by style and sophistication – pristine tiled floors, a solid marble staircase, grand mahogany doors – and we’re only in the entrance hall of the building. Inside your home, a lavish theme continues. The furnishings are high-quality, modern pieces, and the colour scheme of the decor is rich and regal. We particularly love the deep crimson tiled bathroom and dark green feature walls. Pick up an art book from the shelf and have a flick through as you catch some rays on the balconette. From up here, the Urquinaona metro stop is so close you can almost see it – just one minute away, hop on to be whisked around the entire city. But there’s plenty to do on foot. See Gaudí’s masterpieces Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, a fifteen and twenty-minute walk respectively, on the elegant broadway of Passeig de Gràcia. You can hit some designer shops en route, before winding back to your locale for tapas and a glass of Spanish wine.

Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars.

Whether you're staying as a family or a group of friends, this home in the heart of Barcelona is ideally situated for sightseeing excursions. The Gothic Quarter is within walking distance of the building, and if you need a break from the heat, Somorrostro Beach is easily reachable by bus. The interior of the pad is simple yet well-equipped for any length of stay. What's more, there's a balcony for alfresco refreshments, although it is somewhat overlooked by the neighbouring apartments.

El Born is a bustling barrio of cafés, cocktails, and Catalan culture. Seconds from all the action, your home is located in a historical building with buckets of charm. We love the exposed brickwork and wooden beams of this original flat. These rustic structural features contrast beautifully with modern, understated furnishings and decor. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows open up on balconies overlooking the street, while cushy sofas and flowing curtains add softness to your surroundings. Up on the communal roof terrace, we recommend getting a cold drink and lying back in the sun loungers. This sunny spot is perfect for an iced coffee in the morning, or a chilled glass of wine in the evening. After relaxing up here, head down to street level to check out the bars and restaurants of El Born. It's also a fifteen-minute walk to the beach and just over five to the Parc de la Ciutadella. With the Barceloneta metro stop five minutes from home, the entire city is yours to explore. But if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by all the incredible options, your friendly host is here to help. They can provide tourist information as well as city maps, taxi booking, and tickets for monuments and museums – truly a first-class service.

Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

Staying in Mar Diagonal is not the obvious choice for everyone, but if you want a more relaxed, beachy atmosphere, it’s hard to beat this apartment. The building is impressive enough in itself, and the fact that every room has a sea view is not to be sniffed at. While the design of the place is simple, even bordering on sparse, the way that the windows frame that view mitigates what could otherwise be seen as a slight lack of inspiration. Getting into the city is easy enough on the metro, but it’s about an hour on foot to Plaça de Catalunya.

You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. One of Barcelona's longest boulevards crossing right through the city, it's an impressive sight to behold. And thanks to its elevated position on the fifth floor, the spacious bedrooms feel surprisingly quiet at night with the windows closed and the black-out blinds drawn.

How Transparent

Drawing inspiration from, the breezy beaches of Southeast Asia, it's easy to forget that you're actually in the heart of Barcelona from this serene spot. That is of course until you step out onto one of the home's three different balconies. Instead of palm trees and sandy shores, however, you'll get to take in views of the equally charming cobbled square and beautiful Spanish architecture that looks over the street below. The apartment's open-plan layout invites guests to relax in style while catching respite from the buzz of the city. Try your hand at preparing some local tapas or even a homemade paella to serve up at the dining area, or better still – head out to try out the local cuisine at the bars and restaurants within walking distance. Positioned just a fifteen-minute leisurely stroll away from Barceloneta beach, you'll be within easy reach of the ocean breeze after all. We particularly loved the ornate ceiling mouldings in the living space. When you arrive, throw open the curtains and step out onto your Juliet balcony, feeling the warmth of Barcelona’s glorious sunshine as the breeze ripples through the quiet leafy streets below. It’s hard to believe this home is a ten-minute walk from the buzzing Plaza Catalunya, often regarded as Barcelona’s most central point. From here, you’ll find the Passeig de Gracia, with its emblematic Modernist buildings, high-end boutiques and upscale eateries. Better yet, the trendy El Born neighbourhood, famous for its artsy crowd and boho feel is only a fifteen-minute walk away.

We couldn’t get enough of the exposed brickwork, original ceiling beams, muted hues and abundant house plants. Furniture has been hand-selected for both style and function – tuck into homemade tapas around the Scandi dining table or get comfy with a measure of local Penedés brandy on the L-shaped couch. Bedrooms are stripped-back yet cosy, so you can guarantee a peaceful sleep night after night. When you’re done sunning yourself on Barcelona’s sandy seashore, take the leisurely thirty-minute stroll into the evocative Gothic Quarter. Enjoy a pit stop en route in Ciutadella Park and chill out with a picnic by Gaudí’s fountain.

Located on the border of Barcelona's El Born and Eixample districts, you couldn't be better placed to explore the Catalan capital. The majestic Arc de Triomf is just a four-minute walk away, while the 15th-century cathedral is no more than ten minutes away on foot. So after pounding the pavement, why not head to the iconic Barceloneta beach, where you can soak up some sun and frolic in the surf.

Reclaimed Utopia

There's nothing about this place we haven't fallen in love with. From the historic street it sits on, in the oldest part of the city, to the impeccable styling, it's a hard place to drag yourself away from. A tastefully modernised period apartment in one of the area's typical buildings, we loved the stripped-back original features – think exposed brick walls, high ceilings, ancient wood beams and a pretty, wrought iron balcony. And while we could sit outside all day, sipping tea and watching the world go by, the rest of the apartment is comfortable and practical, with a well-stocked, contemporary kitchen and two bedrooms. You can easily work at the desk all day, if you really need to, then serve dinner at the black dining table. With a mix of neutral colours and rustic textures, it's clear a great deal of thought has been put into making this home a memorable one. In the evenings, slip out to one of the nearby bars or restaurants, and by day explore the Gothic Quarter and walk to the nearby beach.

Black Tea

Located in the heart of El Born — Barcelona's epicentre of cool — this apartment is surrounded by exclusive boutiques, hip bars open late into the night and the Picasso Museum, which is only four minutes' walk away. Inside the home, we admired the rustic touches left in after a recent renovation, particularly the exposed brickwork and wooden beams. You can instantly tell it will be a lovely place to escape the midday sun, with the delicate curtains on either side of the French doors fluttering about in the breeze and the parquet floor running throughout feeling cool to the touch on bare feet. When you fancy soaking up some rays, however, the building has a communal roof terrace complete with seats, a dining table and a charming view over the city's rooftops.

Tawny Cinder

Staying at Diagonal Mar is a bit different from the typical Barcelona experience of Gaudí buildings and getting lost in the cobbled passages of the Gothic Quarter. While famed architectural marvels like the Sagrada Família are a twenty-minute drive away, this apartment is a dream for lovers of golden shores and turquoise waters – the beachfront is right opposite. You can walk to Platja de la Nova Mar Bella in just eight minutes, and admire views of its glistening waters from this glass-clad abode. With palm trees lining the road as you arrive at this modern building, there’s a beach-resort vibe that feels a world away from the hectic city centre. Inside, you’ll be wowed by the fresh, clean, and sleek interiors of the enormous open-plan living space. White is the dominant colour, illuminated further by floor-to-ceiling glass windows and sliding doors to private terraces and balconies. It’s a home that makes you feel like a VIP, especially with the services your host offers. Enjoy airport pickup, followed by a welcome hamper, attraction tickets, restaurant reservations, and of course a private chef for when you’d rather sip chilled wine than make your own tapas.

Even if we didn't know this home's location, we'd be inclined to say that 'it's so El Born'. Unique art and furniture capture the neighbourhood's character, so you won't notice much difference between the chic interior and the many trendy tapas bars dotted around the nearby streets. La Baule Gallery has some lovely design assets, such as the exposed brick walls, stone columns enhanced with iron beams, and other industrial details that highlight the high-quality furnishings. There aren't many entertainment options – but in this neighbourhood, you won't be bored.

A seven-minute walk from the lush and tranquil gardens of the Parc de la Ciutadella, the vibrant area of El Born is teeming with boutiques, cafés, restaurants, and charm. After wandering through the maze of paved streets, you'll find the original, dark wooden door of your Barcelona home. Your hosts at this historical building are ready to provide a first-class service. Whether you need taxis booked, tickets for city attractions, maps, or restaurant recommendations, you’ll get VIP treatment from the offset. Inside the flat, exposed brickwork and original wooden beams bring a rustic vibe to the space. However, minimalist and modern furnishings contrast this perfectly. We love the marble-clad bathroom, bringing yet more class and luxury to your surroundings. A modern high-rise apartment just a short walk from some of Barcelona's northern beaches, this place has a dreamy balcony and far-reaching views – there's even a glimpse of the sea. Ideal for a couple or a small family, it sleeps up to four although the second bedroom is equally useful as an office if you'll be working during your stay. 

A wall of windows keeps the living space bright and cheerful, and there's a sociable flow through to the contemporary eat-in kitchen – which sports sleek black units. There's everything you need for a comfortable stay and great storage in the bedrooms for all your stuff, making it ideal for a longer stay too.

Walk less than fifteen minutes to the beach, or head to the nearby Diagonal Mar shopping centre or Parc del Fòrum. With trams just outside your door taking you into the city, all the big attractions are within easy reach too.

Since Barcelona doesn't have a lot of beachside apartments, there's a zone right across the road from it, where modern high rises offer a brilliant view of the sea and the developing Poblenou. Maresme is only a few minutes away from the beach, but you'll need to take the nearby metro to get to Eixample. In the summer, this home really comes alive with a whole extra lounge and dining area on the balcony that overlooks Nova Mar Bella beach. But even in the winter, the elegant design creates a pleasant atmosphere.

Set in vibrant El Fort Pienc, fringing the neighbourhoods of El Born, Eixample, and Sagrada, you’ve got all of the city’s hotspots at your feet from this smart apartment. It’s worth noting that the second bedroom feels snug compared to that whopper of a king-sized main room. Though the separate shower rooms for each bedroom are a bonus if you need to speed mornings along. While the floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony doors are impressive, there’s no outside space to sit out here. But with Barcelona’s leafy Parc de la Ciutadella just a stroll away, we don’t think you’ll mind.

This rustic yet modern apartment is located right in the heart of Barcelona, putting the very best of the city within strolling distance. Exposed brick, timber beams and Scandi-style furnishings come together nicely to create a stylish environment that’s both inviting and practical. While the well-appointed kitchen and comfortable beds feel just like home, the communal roof terrace and attentive reception staff are facilities you’re more likely to find in a trendy hotel. Get to know your El Born neighbourhood with a mosey through its historic streets. You're a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the Parc de la Ciutadella with plenty of excellent shopping and dining options right on your doorstep. Inside, traditional Catalan touches combine with a contemporary design to add real warmth to the pad – that said, the bedrooms do vary in size and there's limited storage space.

This apartment caught our eye for its prime location near Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. Walking distance from Barcelona Cathedral, Parc de la Ciutadella and various museums and restaurants, you couldn't ask for a better neighbourhood to call home. The apartment has a little wear and tear, and since it's on the second floor of a building without a lift, you'll want to pack light. That said, we like the contemporary design, which has a dash of Spanish flair in the colourful tiles. A double sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible, too.

A Flamenco Breeze

Fifteen minutes north of Barceloneta beach, shake off the sand and make yourself at home in the El Born district. This vibrant region of the city has enough winding streets of cafés, bars, restaurants, and boutiques to keep you busy for days. But in such a bustling area, you’ll need a flat to relax in. The design of this home combines old-world Catalan architecture with modern furniture. We love the exposed brick and rock walls, plus vaulted ceilings showing original wooden beams. The modernity comes with understated decor such as large, grey linen sofas paired with gold and marble-topped tables. Your bedroom is innovatively situated on a corner, meaning you’ve got light coming in from various angles through those huge windows. With its own little balcony to perch on, this is the perfect place to wake up in and enjoy your espresso. Another option is heading up to the communal roof terrace (but get up early for the sun loungers). Before tourists start streaming down into the Gothic Quarter, take a morning walk through its quaint, cobbled streets and you’ll end up at the Mercat de la Boqueria in just over fifteen minutes. For the afternoon, wander the vast green spaces of the Parc de la Ciutadella just over five minutes away. And the cocktail bars of El Born will be waiting for you in the evening.

With direct sea views, garden, pool and kids' play area/pool, as well as easy access to transportation to the rest of this beautiful city, this home really has everything to offer for a relaxed and fun-filled city break. All guests need to do is kick off their shoes and listen to the gentle and melodic crash of waves in the background as they enjoy their morning coffee out on the balcony, watching as seagulls fly overhead. Children will have the time of their lives playing in the pool and play area, and when it's time to head on out to explore, guests will be spoilt for choice as the nearby Metro station connects the area to the rest of the city, making sightseeing easier than ever. 

Spend your days relaxing and soaking up those delicious Spanish rays at the neighbouring beach, which can be reached in as little as a ten-minute stroll, while the stunningly unique architecture that Barcelona is so famous for can be seen in the same amount of time. For those looking to spend the day shopping, dining and wine tasting, your neighbourhood of Diagonal Mar, as well as the cultural melting pot of La Rambla are the perfect spots, and if you're looking to venture out further afield for something truly spectacular, we highly recommend The Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, which can be reached in a thirty-minute drive, or forty minutes by public transport.

If you’re staying in El Born, one of Barcelona’s trendiest neighbourhoods, then you need an apartment to match – fortunately, this beachy boho abode is just the ticket. We loved how finca-style ceilings juxtapose the modern, sleek black accents and plaster-effect walls. Straw hanging lamps and an abundance of woven textures add a sense of grounding that encourages you to slow down and switch off. And where better to put your feet up than the covered terrace. Spend unhurried mornings sipping milky coffees in the hanging chair before setting the table ready for a breakfast of local produce. 

Afternoons are to be spent sunning yourself on Barceloneta Beach, just a fifteen-minute mosey from your doorstep. Enjoy picnics in the glorious Ciutadella Park, five minutes away, and gentle strolls through the medieval streets that surround your building. At the end of the day, head into the Gothic Quarter for glasses of sangria in old-world tapas bars.

Inspired by Nature

Once an industrial area, Poblenou has gone (and continues to go) through a transformation, bringing art and leisure into the neighbourhood. If you're here for the beach, then this home is close to perfect – Playa Bogatell is a ten-minute walk away. There are stairs in this home and no ramp, so it's not the best option for those with limited mobility or heavy luggage, but the layout of the home itself is handled extremely well. The upstairs even has a balcony overlooking the living room, which is one of the many cosy spots to enjoy a coffee and conversation.

The cultural hub of El Born is a district that’s certainly full of life, but not so full of tourists. Find cafés and bars hidden down intriguing alleyways, or visit the enormous Parc de la Ciutadella for a taste of the natural world. Six minutes away, this apartment has a bird’s eye view over it all. And with galleries like Moco Museum and Museu Picasso just a seven-minute stroll from home, life is pretty peachy on the ground too.

Tasteful, bold, and multicultural – three words that could describe the area as well as these interiors. Typical Catalan design comes through tiling and timber beamed ceilings, but there’s a nod to Japanese influence from the bamboo partition to the bedroom. Plants, wicker, and woven textures bring a feeling of Bali into this studio-like space, while the modern, charcoal kitchen is reminiscent of an industrial NYC apartment.

But it doesn’t end there. Pause the record player and head to the luxe roof terrace for spectacular views over El Born and neighbouring Barri Gòtic. Think siestas on the loungers, brunches at the dining set, or sunsets on the sofa  (pitcher of sangría optional).
