You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. One of Barcelona's longest boulevards crossing right through the city, it's an impressive sight to behold. If you’re staying in El Born, one of Barcelona’s trendiest neighbourhoods, then you need an apartment to match – fortunately, this beachy boho abode is just the ticket. We loved how finca-style ceilings juxtapose the modern, sleek black accents and plaster-effect walls. Straw hanging lamps and an abundance of woven textures add a sense of grounding that encourages you to slow down and switch off. And where better to put your feet up than the covered terrace. Spend unhurried mornings sipping milky coffees in the hanging chair before setting the table ready for a breakfast of local produce. 

Afternoons are to be spent sunning yourself on Barceloneta Beach, just a fifteen-minute mosey from your doorstep. Enjoy picnics in the glorious Ciutadella Park, five minutes away, and gentle strolls through the medieval streets that surround your building. At the end of the day, head into the Gothic Quarter for glasses of sangria in old-world tapas bars.

A nine-minute walk from this Catalan colossus, this apartment offers a serene stay in an otherwise lively neighbourhood. While nearby architecture aims to overwhelm you with decorative and ornate features, the interiors here are quite the opposite – understated and zen. The decor takes inspiration from Japan, with wood-panelled walls, bamboo furnishings, and a delicate ink mural in the lounge. We love the sense of calm you can enjoy indoors, with the option to step out to your own private terrace and take in the sounds of the city centre. With coveted views of Gaudí’s masterpiece directly from this spot, we imagine you’ll be spending plenty of time up here (with a glass of tempranillo in hand). Back on ground level, take a four-minute walk to the Encants metro station and whizz around the city with ease. Whether you’d prefer a day on the shores of Barceloneta Beach, or an evening by the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, your home is a perfect base for exploring this diverse metropolis.

Whether you're staying as a family or a group of friends, this home in the heart of Barcelona is ideally situated for sightseeing excursions. The interior of the pad is simple yet well-equipped for any length of stay. Staying in Mar Diagonal is not the obvious choice for everyone, but if you want a more relaxed, beachy atmosphere, it’s hard to beat this apartment. The building is impressive enough in itself, and the fact that every room has a sea view is not to be sniffed at. While the design of the place is simple, even bordering on sparse, the way that the windows frame that view mitigates what could otherwise be seen as a slight lack of inspiration. Getting into the city is easy enough on the metro, but it’s about an hour on foot to Plaça de Catalunya.

Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

This modern, crowd-pleasing home is a picture of industrial chic nestled in-between the beach and Barcelona's historic Old Town. Stepping in to look around at the decor, you'll notice low-hanging lampshades, vibrant chairs and a quirky pallet coffee table that we really loved. Natural light pours into the apartment through crittall windows, while super high beamed ceilings and a clever layout make for a light and airy spot to unwind with friends or family after an afternoon spent sightseeing. Rustle up a plate of paella in the sleek metro-tiled kitchen – complete with a sociable breakfast bar to come together for a glass of Barolo. Better still, enjoy alfresco dining out on your private terrace with painted brick walls and garden furniture.  As for El Poblenou, it's a residential, quiet neighbourhood without the city noise – and yet under a twenty-minute wander from the iconic La Sagrada Familia. 

The Third Star

One look at that private terrace with sweeping views over Barcelona, and it's easy to see why this home caught our eye. Location-wise, you're right in the heart of vibrant Glòries. Don't miss the nearby mall with its long-standing flea market and upscale shops and eateries. Or hop over into neighbouring L'Eixample to hit the must-see sights. If we were being picky, though the kitchen is well-equipped, it could do with an interior refresh. It's also worth noting the second bedroom is pocket-sized with limited floor space. But we'll let that slide for a home with such impressive outdoor space. 

Viewpoint Terrace

This apartment offers a central location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and a practical pad to call your own. Just a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the various shops, restaurants and bars, you really couldn't be better placed for exploring the city. The home's bedrooms vary in size, with limited space so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think the modern design, which benefits from traditional Catalan touches, makes for a lovely home to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing.

Staying at Diagonal Mar is a bit different from the typical Barcelona experience of Gaudí buildings and getting lost in the cobbled passages of the Gothic Quarter. While famed architectural marvels like the Sagrada Família are a twenty-minute drive away, this apartment is a dream for lovers of golden shores and turquoise waters – the beachfront is right opposite. You can walk to Platja de la Nova Mar Bella in just eight minutes, and admire views of its glistening waters from this glass-clad abode. With palm trees lining the road as you arrive at this modern building, there’s a beach-resort vibe that feels a world away from the hectic city centre. Inside, you’ll be wowed by the fresh, clean, and sleek interiors of the enormous open-plan living space. White is the dominant colour, illuminated further by floor-to-ceiling glass windows and sliding doors to private terraces and balconies. It’s a home that makes you feel like a VIP, especially with the services your host offers. Sitting pretty in a beautiful old Haute building, this Eixample apartment is fresh, warm and welcoming, with a stylish blend of original features and minimalist modern furniture. We particularly loved the ornate ceiling mouldings in the living space. When you arrive, throw open the curtains and step out onto your Juliet balcony, feeling the warmth of Barcelona’s glorious sunshine as the breeze ripples through the quiet leafy streets below. It’s hard to believe this home is a ten-minute walk from the buzzing Plaza Catalunya, often regarded as Barcelona’s most central point. From here, you’ll find the Passeig de Gracia, with its emblematic Modernist buildings, high-end boutiques and upscale eateries. Better yet, the trendy El Born neighbourhood, famous for its artsy crowd and boho feel is only a fifteen-minute walk away.

It’s a studio-style apartment, but a room divider provides a little privacy between the bedroom area and dine-in living room. Plus, sliding doors can shut off the compact kitchen so fridge noise won’t keep you up at night. The bonus is the balcony which is petit but furnished with a bistro set.

Situated close to the lovely Ciutadella Park and the Arc de Triomf, this apartment has a small balcony and minimal furniture for maximum space. We think it's a great choice for families – your host may be able to provide a cot and high chair if you're travelling with little ones, and well-behaved pets are welcome. The decor is a charming blend of original features from when the home was first built in 1910, along with more modern elements to make your stay comfortable and easy.

La Casa Joana

This apartment caught our eye for its prime location near Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. Walking distance from Barcelona Cathedral, Parc de la Ciutadella and various museums and restaurants, you couldn't ask for a better neighbourhood to call home. The apartment has a little wear and tear, and since it's on the second floor of a building without a lift, you'll want to pack light. That said, we like the contemporary design, which has a dash of Spanish flair in the colourful tiles. A double sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible, too.

A Flamenco Breeze

You’ll find this smart bolthole placed around the corner from two of Eixample’s hotspots – Arc de Triomf and the vast green spaces of Ciutadella's Park. While we love the home's overall design, the apartment lacks natural daylight in places. Although the cosy, light-filled atrium room leading off the lounge is a nice touch for morning coffees and evening drinks. If six guests share, two of you will have to make do with the sofa bed in the lounge. Not ideal for some, but it could work out fine for children sharing or a shorter stay.
