You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. One of Barcelona's longest boulevards crossing right through the city, it's an impressive sight to behold. And thanks to its elevated position on the fifth floor, the spacious bedrooms feel surprisingly quiet at night with the windows closed and the black-out blinds drawn.

How Transparent

Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

In the Eixample district, eight minutes from Plaça de Catalunya, this flat offers an opulent stay in the city centre. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by style and sophistication – pristine tiled floors, a solid marble staircase, grand mahogany doors – and we’re only in the entrance hall of the building. Inside your home, a lavish theme continues. The furnishings are high-quality, modern pieces, and the colour scheme of the decor is rich and regal. We particularly love the deep crimson tiled bathroom and dark green feature walls. Pick up an art book from the shelf and have a flick through as you catch some rays on the balconette. From up here, the Urquinaona metro stop is so close you can almost see it – just one minute away, hop on to be whisked around the entire city. But there’s plenty to do on foot. See Gaudí’s masterpieces Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, a fifteen and twenty-minute walk respectively, on the elegant broadway of Passeig de Gràcia. You can hit some designer shops en route, before winding back to your locale for tapas and a glass of Spanish wine.

It's clear that Gingerbread Cinder was designed by a professional – original vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls are a challenge to pull off, but these guys succeeded using minimal, high-quality furniture. This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located in Barcelona's 'it' neighbourhood El Born, you'll be within walking distance to the most famous sights, as well as local hidden gems.

Housed in a 19th century listed building, raised above the quiet pedestrian streets of the central El Born district, you’ll find this authentic Catalan apartment. We love the curated mix of antique pieces and minimalist furniture. The vaulted ceilings and original Juliet balconies create a lofty, airy feel to this space. Take the flight of stairs up to the top of this handsome building and you’ll find a hidden secret – an impressive shared sun terrace, the perfect spot for sundowners before heading out for authentic tapas. And you’re in the right neighbourhood to do so. The surrounding streets are archetypical of El Born - Barcelona’s ‘It’ neighbourhood, don’t you know. You’re only two minutes from heaps of trendy bars, coffee shops, and independent boutiques, as well as the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria Del Mar. Start your day with a spot of people watching at an outdoor café before heading on to one of the many sights located nearby.  The lively streets of Plaça Catalunya, Les Rambles, and the Gothic Quarter are all just a fifteen-minute walk away – as is the city’s sandy beach. Your only conundrum will be deciding where to head first.

In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Built with respect for the environment, this bright home is an ideal base for eco-conscious guests looking for a comfortable, central stay in the city. While the home dates back to 1900, it’s been brought into sparkling 21st-style with an interior that reflects eco-design principles and respects Catalan Modernism. High ceilings, mosaic tiles, wooden framed French doors and upcycled furnishings create a beautiful, minimalist impression in the open-plan living room with a cool wooden kitchenette and dining table inviting Spanish feasts aplenty. The two bedrooms are equally pared-back and offer cosy beds as well as Juliet balconies with leafy views over your El Born neighbourhood. You’ll also have access to your host’s office and communal rooftop terrace on the eighth floor (during working hours) where hammocks invite you to spend sunny afternoons soaking up those Barcelona rays. Factor in the regular walking tours, wine tastings and food experiences your host organises for his guests, and you’re all set for a fun, culture-filled stay. Outside of your home, you’re just a five-minute walk from the Arc de Triomf, a nine-minute stroll from both Plaça de Catalunya and Ciutadella Park, while La Sagrada Familia is twenty-four minutes away on foot. 


Reclaimed Reverie

This apartment offers a central location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and a practical pad to call your own. Just a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the various shops, restaurants and bars, you really couldn't be better placed for exploring the city. The home's bedrooms vary in size, with limited space so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think the modern design, which benefits from traditional Catalan touches, makes for a lovely home to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing.

Found in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, this home couldn’t get much closer to the breathtaking Barcelona Cathedral if it tried. Easily admired even from the living space, we recommend stepping out onto the terrace whenever you want to swoon over the views of the thirteenth century Gothic construction. Lucky for you, the outdoor area is made for lounging – grab a seat as you watch the sunrise first thing in the morning, have meals alfresco, read under the Spanish sun, or sunbathe on the turf. 

Light and neutral inside, the home makes clever use of the space with efficient furniture choices like the sofa cum dining bench. The perfect space for relaxation after a day exploring the city at your doorstep or getting work done from the workspace in the lounge or bedroom. Put your feet up and unwind with a glass of wine before heading out for a bite to eat at one of the Catalan restaurants. 

Wander the narrow, mediaeval streets admiring the architecture as you make your way to La Rambla – around eight minutes away – to pick up street food. Days can be spent seeing the sights or relaxing on the beach – Barceloneta is twenty-four minutes on foot, but much quicker to get to by car if you’re eager to dip into the salty surf.

Sophisticated and spacious, this period apartment is every inch the perfect Barcelona home-from-home. With tall windows and doors opening to traditional narrow balconies, high ceilings, tiled floors and shutters, it's packed with character. The huge living space has comfy sofas and chairs to one end and a big dining table at the other. A well-lit spot perfect for meals together in the sunshine, all you need to do is open the doors to let the outside in. There's a modern and well kitted-out kitchen, two good bathrooms and two large bedrooms, along with a smaller one that would suit children. Here you'll be right in the thick of things, with the Sagrada Familia cathedral and the Arc de Triomf both within a fifteen-minute walk.

The architectural details in Cinder Symmetry are the most characterful part of this comfortable, bright home. Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars.

With authentic Spanish interiors and a prime location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, this apartment is ideal for those looking to be within walking distance of the city's most celebrated sights. You're a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the Parc de la Ciutadella with plenty of excellent shopping and dining options right on your doorstep. Inside, traditional Catalan touches combine with a contemporary design to add real warmth to the pad – that said, the bedrooms do vary in size and there's limited storage space.
