Rainforest chic may not be two words you’ve ever associated with Barcelona, but when you walk through the door of this astonishing apartment, you’ll wonder why. Lush foliage provides the perfect contrast to high-design, with contemporary furniture, neon lights and plenty of architectural surprises (think floating stairs, wall ladders and mezzanine bedrooms). Take your morning coffee on the tropical terrace amongst banana trees and palms, before heading out into the city. Based in bohemian Gràcia, away from the main tourist area, there’s a wealth of independent boutiques, cafés and organic grocers to explore. Or take the short walk to the Sagrada Familia or Parc Guel for a slice of Gaudi’s unique fairy-tale vision. After a hard day of sightseeing, come back to your secret jungle for a siesta (you'll need it - Barcelona plays 'til late) and a couple of drinks before heading out for a tapas crawl and drinks at some of the city’s best bars.

Stay in Sant Gervasi, one of Barcelona’s greenest districts. There are parks galore here, the most popular being Turo Park. It’s not the most central location, so it won’t suit those that want to be in the mix of the hustle and bustle. But it is a family-friendly neighbourhood full of charm, and you're close to the famous Mercat de Galvany – the Metro is well connected to the rest of the city, too. Back home, we’re big fans of the beautifully decorated interior. It’s a great choice for a long-term stay, with excellent amenities, a cosy living space, a well-equipped kitchen, and a peaceful location. You can even bring your pet to really make it feel like home.

Set in the prestigious residential district of Sant Gervasi – Galvany, it's easy to see why this home caught our eye. Set back from the tourist hotspots, be prepared to hop on the Metro for sightseeing. Although with upscale bakeries, bistros and cocktail bars on your doorstep, you may decide to keep things local. While there's not much of a view at this home, the sleek, modern interiors and little private courtyard for pre-dinner aperitivos more than make up for that. There's also a dedicated desk space for remote working – if you must.

This part of Sarrià is quite close to Tibidabo, which is why you can enjoy a beautiful view of the hill from the back of Ocean Melody. This is a residential area, perfect for those who want to swap the polished tourist streets for a slice of the real Barcelona life – but you can also walk to nearby Gràcia if you want a bit more excitement. This is a simply designed home, but it's full of light and quite socially conducive. Two balconies will each give you a different view, and can easily accommodate all four (or six) guests.

As far as homes in La Dreta de l'Eixample go, Caletre is a solid representation of the neighbourhood's architecture. Adorned with Modernist masterpieces, this part of Barcelona boasts great architecture on every corner and even the insides of an unassuming building like this one show some masterful craft. True, the street you'll be staying on is a little bit noisy, but we think that easy access to the cultural heart of town more than makes up for it.

Though being a six-minute walk from two metro stops, the city really is yours for the taking.

We love this home's elegant design aesthetic. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

Despite the central location, it’s pretty quiet as the rooms look out over the terrace rather than the busy street.

The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. We didn't expect to find a home like this in an unassuming building like the one that hides the Trojan Horse. Let's kick off with the location first with this home – it's fantastic. The apartment is within walking distance of Plaça de Catalunya and the Arc de Triomf, as well as all the restaurants and bars of Eixample. Culture lovers, on the other hand, can visit the nearby Picasso Museum and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. The apartment itself has a Juliet-style balcony with views over the La Rambla de Catalunya. We should point out that if you're a group of four, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the already compact living room. But that's probably a small price to pay for such a great address.

Housed in a Belle Epoque, 19th-century building this apartment's interior is just as striking as the outside. A steady theme of chocolatey tones paired with minimalistic furnishings made us feel like we were in the home of a deep thinker. Still, there are small details that breathe some warmth into the flat – the Catalan hydraulic tiles on the floor, the modern art on the walls, and the red velvet seats on the balcony. The balcony has a perfect people-watching view over the leafy boulevard below. The kitchen as black as backstage at a theatre and dramatically downlit, but it's not all style over substance as the cupboards are packed with everything you could want for self-catering. Should you need to catch up on work, the second bedroom doubles as an office. When it comes to clocking off you couldn't be better placed with Passeig de Gracia one block away, where Gaudí's masterpiece 'La Pedrera' and famous hotels like Omm and Hotel Casa Fuster reside. The apartment itself is in the 'Cuadrat d'Or' (Golden Square), an area packed with bars, restaurants and high-end shops galore.

Go shopping on Passeig de Gràcia, picnic in Ciutadella Park or marvel at the Sagrada Familia – all less than a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep.

Located on one of the main veins of Barcelona’s sprawling network of streets – Avinguda Diagonal – this apartment has an air of importance. The local area is home to Gaudí masterpieces such as Casa Milà, an eleven-minute walk away, and this striking flat certainly does its best to compete. Starting in the living space, the exposed brickwork of the vaulted ceiling is sure to catch your eye. Colourful, oversized, abstract art adorns the walls, and art-deco-style furniture invites you in to settle down. All of this is illuminated by natural light flooding in from the glass doors of your private terrace, our favourite part of the home. Sip a glass of wine next to the olive tree while you gaze out to views of modernist buildings and blue skies. If you head back down to ground level, check out the main thoroughfare to find an array of vibrant bars and restaurants where you can spend the evening. As the Diagonal metro stop is only a six-minute walk from home, you’ll be able to explore other areas of the city too. Did someone say ‘beach day’?

The location of this elegant home couldn't be better – it's surrounded by shops, popular restaurants, and world-famous sights, but tucked away in a quiet side street in the middle of Passeig de Gràcia. Even though the balcony faces the street, the well-placed shutters keep it private and give the communal areas a touch of industrial design. Taffy teal is all about comfort and will help you relax in with luxurious soft furnishings, excellent appliances, and a marble bath.

In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Reclaimed Dream

It's clear that Gingerbread Cinder was designed by a professional – original vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls are a challenge to pull off, but these guys succeeded using minimal, high-quality furniture. This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located in Barcelona's 'it' neighbourhood El Born, you'll be within walking distance to the most famous sights, as well as local hidden gems. 

Gingerbread Cinder

With a fantastic position in the middle of Eixample, this apartment puts you close to many of Barcelona's most famous sights. Even if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the city's streets, you'll be happy to return to this stylish home at the end of the day.

High ceilings and tall windows mean that the interior feels bright and airy, but there's also a Juliet balcony if you want to feel the breeze on your face at any point. There's a lot to like about the design too, with wooden furnishings and surfaces going nicely with the cool grey tiles and eclectic selection of objets d'art. We're fans of the exposed brickwork in the master bedroom, which adds a loft feel to the space, as well as the pristine subway tiling in the bathrooms.

When it comes to sightseeing, the place to start has to be Casa Milà, which lies five minutes' walk from the home. One of Gaudí's other famous creations, La Sagrada Familia, can be reached in twenty-five minutes on foot, too. The Gothic Quarter takes a similar amount of time in another direction.
