Away from Lanzarote's well-trodden tourist trail, this home offers a peaceful escape in the northeast of the island. Set on the grounds of a 300-year-old farm just outside the village of Guatiza, it offers easy access to the volcanic landscapes of Tenegüime National Park and the waters of the North Atlantic. Its rustic interior decor is in keeping with its rural location, but given Lanzarote's fantastic year-round climate, we imagine you'll spend most of your time in the courtyard garden surrounded by tropical plants. You're within a short stroll of a small supermarket and several bars and restaurants, plus César Manrique's world-famous cactus garden. Meanwhile, there's a beautiful golden beach at Arrieta, a ten-minute drive away.

This eco-friendly studio apartment is situated just moments away from the Las Canteras beach, making it a good base for a couple or a solo traveller. Thanks to the central location, a car is not essential here, as you’ll have plenty of shopping and dining options to choose from within walking distance. Public transport options are also excellent if you want to explore further afield. The pad may be compact in size but there’s enough space here for two guests to be comfortable, and with good internet speed, you can also catch up on work during your stay – although you'll have to set-up shop around the dining table since there isn't a desk.

This home is a rare find – it has a peaceful and private setting, and yet it's just a few minutes walk from the historic city of La Orotava. Surrounded by a plantation of avocados, relax on the multiple terraces (five no less), cool off from the Tenerife sun in the infinity waterfall pool with its Atlantic Ocean vistas or unwind in the hot tub. 

We love the professionally designed gardens – our favourite spot is the yoga/meditation corner –  very zen. There's a fantastic outdoor kitchen, too – cook up a feast while you enjoy the fabulous views of Mount Teide, the forests and hills. As sunset arrives, pick some mint for your mojitos from the herb garden or feel free to pick a lemon for your G&T. As the light continues to fade, gather around the designer fire pit. 

Or, on cooler evenings, cosy up in front of the wood-burning stove indoors. Here, you'll find gorgeous beamed, vaulted ceilings, as well as original pictures and sculptures.

There's plenty to do out and about too. Hire a bike and explore the terrain (many professional cycling teams train here). If you prefer something a bit less energetic, there are three golf courses within easy reach, including one designed by Seve Ballestros. The nearest beach is 3 kilometres away, along with the popular resort beaches and Lido in Puerto de la Cruz, while La Orotava has an array of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance.

We don't throw around the term 'tropical oasis' very often, but the lush garden at this 300-year-old former farmhouse is more than deserving of the title. Brimming with mature shrubs, vibrant flowers and tall leafy trees, you'll want to spend all day, every day here basking in the Spanish sunshine and watching the palms sway. It's downright heavenly, and oodles of different seating nooks means you can follow the sun all day long. Start mornings off with an espresso on the rattan chairs, spend afternoons sprawled out on the outdoor sofa with a good book and end the evenings with a barbecue and a bottle of wine underneath the veranda.   

Even inside, you can make the most of the verdant scenery, thanks to huge floor-to-ceiling doors which open straight onto the garden. We love how bright and breezy the entire home is – whether you're cooking in the sleek kitchen, watching a movie on the smart TV, snuggling up in front of the wood-burner or snoozing in the comfortable bedrooms, the fresh air is only a few steps away. 

And the location is excellent, too. Nestled between Arrieta and Arrecife, you're just a ten-minute drive from gorgeous beaches, lively bars and mouth-watering eateries. Keep the botanical vibe going with a visit to the world-famous Cactus Garden – a thirteen-minute walk – or head to Playa del Jablillo, driveable in fifteen minutes, for snorkelling in the crystal clear waters.

Right on the beachfront at La Canteras, this home has a fabulous spot. Take in the fantastic Atlantic and La Canteras Beach views from this home’s sunny and dazzling whitewashed terrace. You can even spot Mount Teide in Tenerife in the distance. We love this outdoor space, it's ideal for an alfresco breakfast (whizz up a drink in the juicer to accompany some churros). Later, do some sunbathing on the sun loungers. Inside, there are more of those fabulous vistas through the large sliding doors.

In the afternoon, perhaps head to La Canteras  Beach, under a minute stroll away. It’s one of the best urban beaches in the world, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to sample in the vicinity too. Or, for a bit of culture, Las Palmas Cathedral is a ten-minute ride away. It’s a couple of minutes more to Casa-Museo de Colón, which documents Columbus’ voyages.

Situated within a villa complex less than ten minutes' drive from Maspolamas, this recently renovated home will sing to those fond of contemporary design.

Large windows and glass doors bring plenty of natural light into the interior and this asset works particularly well with the wealth of reflective surfaces and stark white walls. There's a preference for minimalism in everything from the sleek kitchen to the pared-back approach to decoration, and we think the host has nailed it.

Besides, you might not actually be spending all that much time indoors, what with the swimming pool out in the garden, along with the barbecue and covered terrace complete with a lounge and alfresco dining table. Here, it's welcomingly easy to make the most of Gran Canaria's year-round warmth.

Elsewhere in the complex, there's a golf course 200m away from the home, as well as entertainment for children and a couple of shops and restaurants. Nestled in the Canarian village of Tías in Lanzarote, this contemporary villa ticks all the boxes for a coastal family stay. Inside, the home is simply styled, with plenty of space for everyone to spread out – and with each bedroom boasting its own en-suite, there will be no queue to get ready in the mornings. This three-bedroom home’s enclosed garden and pretty pergola are charming. While the interiors are functional and fuss-free rather than overly fancy, this home is all about its outdoor offering, which includes a private pool, a brick-built barbecue and an alfresco dining area. Location-wise getting out and about is a breeze. When it’s time for dinner and drinks we suggest heading into Marina Rubicón, the heart of Playa Blanca, where you’ll find a variety of local gourmet restaurants and lounge bars.

Morning strolls along Las Canteras Beach become part of the new routine at this smart studio apartment perched just 20 metres from the capital’s sandy shores. Part of a newly built apartment complex, this contemporary home has been thoughtfully designed to make the most of the studio space. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal a glimpse of the sea, and the bedroom area is cleverly zoned to give a little separation. The only thing this place doesn’t offer is outdoor space. But with the beach, seafront bars, and restaurants so close, don’t let that be the deal breaker.

This sparkling villa is tailor-made for large families or groups of friends looking for private luxury in rural Gran Canaria. Blessed with tranquility and boasting a fun-filled games room, it has the vibe of a five-star hotel that's reserved just for you. 

A huge open-plan living space – decorated in white walls and with tinges of colour on the furniture – is perfect for spending time as one group. However, when the sun sets on the terracotta tiles, you probably want to spend time outdoors.

This villa is a twenty-minute walk from the centre of lively Corralejo so you’re not right in the thick of things – it’s better suited to those looking to relax and unwind. And you can certainly relax beside the pool – which is larger than most for a villa this size – on an array of comfy loungers. Inside there’s a mix of Canarian-style wood beams and bright splashes of colour – it’s homey and welcoming but not the most modern. We love the outside space, and Playa Vista Lobos is within easy reach.

Ideal for couples, this Gran Canaria apartment puts you in the heart of Las Palmas. The popular Las Canteras beach is just a few minutes away by car, and it’s also close to the old town and the shops. If you fancy renting a bike, you can easily whizz around to explore.
