Your traditional house in the old town of Vielha allows you to experience local life in the mountains, around a five-minute stroll from the River Garonne, passing Sant Miquèu church en route.

This settlement certainly has an old-world vibe, and this home doesn’t exactly make up for lost time. It's homely and cosy, especially with the working fireplace, but the living space might feel a little cramped at capacity. Luckily, a peaceful walk leads right into town, where you can stretch your legs. The twin rooms are ideal for kids who can more easily manoeuvre around the sloped ceilings, and there is a ski locker available for storing your gear after a day on the snow.

This traditional Aranese building is big enough to host extended families or big groups of friends eager to explore the Pyrenees mountain range. It’s the perfect base for active holidays all year round – in the winter, skiers and snowboarders take to the pistes of Baqueira Beret ski resort. In the summer months, there are plenty of hiking opportunities. Walking through Vall de Boí will take you past ancient churches and idyllic scenery. Back at home, there are utensils for making fondue and raclette, and plenty of space to lounge and relax. Its location, in Pleta de Arties, one of the most renowned architectural complexes in the Aran Valley, with gardens and beautiful stone façades. Salardú Solace

From the outside, this home in the town of Garòs overlooked by verdant mountains looks rather rustic, but that's only partially true of the interior. Granted, the exposed stonework and wooden ceiling beams add a quaint air, but much of the design is thrillingly contemporary. You only need to look at the sleek grey kitchen, minimalist bedrooms and black bathrooms to see what we mean.

Those indifferent to decor trends will instead be happy to note the large terrace on which it's possible to sit out and admire the picturesque surroundings, or perhaps the foosball room might take their fancy instead. This is certainly a home in which relaxation is easy to find, whether that's gathered around the fireplace or sinking back into the bathtub.

You'll probably need to put your feet up at some point given the number of possible excursions that lie nearby. Come during the winter months and you can head over to the ski town of Baqueira in only fifteen minutes in the car.
