If you want to stay in a prestigious neighbourhood, how about this home in Salamanca? There are plenty of designer boutiques, art galleries and fine-dining restaurants to explore in the area. Naturally, you will hear some city noise here. This south-facing apartment is light and bright, and we love the Juliet balcony off the open-plan living room with its leafy Ayala Street views. There’s not much food preparation space in the kitchen, but that said, it’s well-equipped, and you can always let your host arrange for a private chef to cook some authentic tapas dishes.

If you love shopping, you’ll be happy to know that this apartment is just a few metres from Gran Vía. Other attractions a short stroll away include the Plaza de España and the Royal Palace of Madrid. This home is perfect for couples, single travellers and business professionals seeking an exceptional location. After all that retail therapy or exploring, there’s a terrace here to relax on, or on not-so-warm days chill out in the sunroom. We love the light and bright open-plan living room overlooking the outdoor space too.

So, whether you’re wanting to sample the local cuisine or hop on the metro to explore further afield, you’re perfectly placed to do so. With all the mod-cons needed for a comfortable stay, this home promises a restful retreat. And if you’re in the city for business rather than pleasure, the desk nestled in a quiet office space is perfect for remote working.

Boasting a privileged location on Madrid’s famous Gran Vía, this elegant apartment puts countless of the city’s most famous sights on your doorstep. It’s not just its incredibly central locale that caught our eye, however. Plasterwork ceilings, marble detailing and a whopping eleven Juliet balconies make this pad stand out from the crowd. Beautifully dressed bedrooms with bespoke wallpaper add to the luxe feeling here too. And did we mention the en-suite’s Turkish-style sauna shower? Of course, being in the beating heart of the capital means noise is to be expected. But we think it’s a small price to pay for a home as striking as this one.

This apartment is within walking distance of an array of attractions, such as Parque Madrid Rio, Casa de Campo, the Royal Palace and La Almudena Cathedral. Of course, there are plenty of dining options to discover in the area, too. The apartment has a desk if you need to catch up on emails and a well-equipped kitchen for making some tapas. We have to say, we love the main bedroom with its dressing room and en-suite. This home is a great choice whether you’re here for leisure or work.

Just a ten-minute walk from Plaza Mayor, this stylish flat isn't messing about when it comes to location. Interesting museums, high-end shopping and many of Madrid's must-see landmarks are a quick stroll away – including Puerta del Sol, Parque de El Retiro and Palacio Real de Madrid, just to name a few. If you love trying new cuisine, you're in luck – this neighbourhood has an array of delectable restaurants and lively bars to while away the evenings in.

Or, if you're partial to homecooked meals, make your way back to this stylish flat and rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. It has everything you'll need – a large island, built-in appliances and plenty of counter space. The rest of the flat is impeccable, too – two glossy bathrooms (one decked out with bold palm leaf wallpaper, another en-suite) feature rainfall showers, the comfortable bedrooms are cosy and pared-back and the bright living area boats a squishy sofa and a lovely Juliet balcony that floods the room with light. We think you'll love calling this apartment home, whether you're in town for a few days or a few weeks.

If you want to be right at the centre of the action in Madrid, then this is the apartment for you. Situated right on Calle Mayor – one of the city's best-known streets – it's within easy reach of all the delights the capital city has to offer. 

The home itself is an elegant space filled with charm, and the high ceilings and tall windows mean there is plenty of natural light. The host has a great eye for stylish furniture – from the marble kitchen counter to the lavish patterned rugs, you'll love the luxurious feel. Practise your Spanish-style cooking in the kitchen before serving your culinary creations to your guests at the gorgeous dining table. Then, after dinner, open up a bottle of Rioja and head out to the private balcony to watch the world go by from above. 

There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, serving everything from traditional tapas to ramen and tacos. Madrid's historic square, Plaza Mayor, is just a two-minute walk away from your front door, as is the famous Puerta del Sol. You'll also find several museums and theatres in the surrounding area, and if you fancy exploring another part of the city then simply hop on the metro at Sol station – it's just a couple of minutes away.

Just an eight-minute stroll from the Gran Vía, this renovated home provides a stylish and well-connected base in one of the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods. You'll find it in Chueca, just steps from the main square, with its delightful array of cafes, bars, art galleries and organic markets. Here, the closest metro stop is practically at your doorstep and will have you at the heart of the action in fifteen minutes flat. 

Inside, it's a winning combination of contemporary comforts and original features – think high ceilings, ornate moulding and shuttered windows, alongside stylish furnishings and pops of colour. We especially love the open-plan living area. Light-filled and modern, it's primed for socialising, with two plush sofas, a large dining table and a state-of-the-art kitchen complete with an elegant breakfast bar. Here, floor-to-ceiling French doors usher in floods of natural light while offering access to two balconies. Spend mornings perched here, cradling a cup of coffee and watching the street below awaken from its slumber, before slipping out for a day of exploring.

Located just outside Plaza Mayor’s arches, this ideally located apartment is the perfect base for those looking to soak up Madrid's vibrant, buzzing centre. 

Blending rustic charm with stylish modern accents, this home feels wonderfully Spanish. We love the exposed beamed ceilings and the wood floors, as well as the houseplants and colourful rug in the living area that add additional characterful flair. 
 
The bedroom is elegantly pared back, offering a comfortable night’s sleep, while the dining area invites celebratory homemade tapas feasts when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene. 
 
Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its wide-sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here while catching some morning rays or watch the sunset from your privileged position over an evening glass of Spanish wine. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, you’ll find Plaza Mayor less than a minute’s walk away, while bustling Puerta del Sol is a four-minute stroll from your door. Elsewhere, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a ten-minute walk, the famous Museo Nacional del Prado is an eighteen-minute stroll, while leafy El Retiro Park is just over twenty minutes away on foot. 


Mayor Muse

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid.

We'd struggle to think of a better location than Gran Vía. This avenue is the city's lifeline, filed with theatres, shops and great transport links to Madrid's many landmarks. Grey Magnolia isn't only central, it looks good too. Some might find its minimalism a bit boring, but the well-curated designer furniture has plenty of character, making the most of the small square footage. We especially liked the headboard in the bedroom and the chic dining table.

We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.
