Step out of the front door and you'll be on the bustling streets of Madrid, within an easy distance of the area's main attractions. Soak up the city's cutting-edge culture with a tour of the Prado Museum, take a stroll around El Retiro Park and sample some of Spain's best restaurants right on your doorstep.

Ten minutes from the alfresco drinking spots of Plaza Mayor, and just over fifteen from the lush greenery of the Parque de El Retiro, this apartment is a wonderful base in Madrid. Despite being so close to main attractions and located among the most vibrant streets, it’s a space where you can relax. This apartment is classy, colourful, and comfortable. The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

The Venetian

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid. 

Sunflower's Embrace

This duplex apartment is an excellent option for a base in central Madrid. It’s filled with light and has all the amenities you might need during your city break. One of the beds is a mattress without a bed frame, and as it’s at mezzanine level above the living room it’s not entirely private. This room also doubles as a workspace for anyone needing to catch up on work. We love the location of this home, just a ten-minute walk from Atocha station and within easy reach of shops, restaurants, and many of Madrid’s best museums, including Museo Nacional del Prado. 

The Lucero

Step into the heart of Madrid with a stay in this contemporary loft. From the simple aesthetic to the functional design, this is a great option for couples and solo travellers in search of a refreshing city stay. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room and the main bedroom is located on the mezzanine level (with no door), but you’ll find all the essentials needed to make it your own. Outside, it’s just a short stroll to local tapas bars, shops and iconic sights like the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid.

Based around an open living area, Peaks & Valleys is well proportioned and generally a sociable space. It’s not in pristine condition, as evidenced by the marks on the walls, but that’s an aesthetic consideration, and doesn’t make the home any less comfortable. The metro station in Lavapiés is close to the flat, and while the square outside is a little rough around the edges, there are several lively bars and restaurants.

This unique loft apartment is perfect for a family, a small group of friends, or two couples looking for a stylish and comfortable base in Madrid. It’s in a vibrant part of the city, close to restaurants and shops, and within walking distance of many of the key attractions – Plaza Mayor and the Prado Museum are less than twenty minutes away on foot. If you don’t feel like walking, hop on the metro at nearby Embajadores. The apartment is modern and attractive, equipped with everything needed for a city break.

The most remarkable thing about Espinas is the quiet. Despite having three balconies, and being in the middle of Lavapiés, the street it looks onto is actually fairly calm. The building is old, and a lot of the original structure features prominently in the flat, which has been designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it. There is some pretty loud wallpaper though, which stops the design from falling into the dreaded ‘neutral’ category.

If city breaks for you are all about exploring a new culture and seeing how the locals live, this is the perfect apartment for your visit to Madrid. It can be found in the colourful La Latina neighbourhood, and is within walking distance of all the major sights in the city while still giving you an authentic taste of Madrid. 
 
The apartment is bright and cool. Light pours in through the balcony doors, which open onto a charming outside space ideal for breakfast or for a late-afternoon tipple after a day seeing the sights. The balcony is like a theatre box from which to watch the bustling neighbourhood come to life each day – you’re in the heart of the city here. 

La Latina is a lively part of Madrid, full of chic restaurants and stylish boutiques. Street art adds a modern touch to the architecture – this is a cool part of town for sure. Finding a cosy corner for a glass of wine or a round of tapas is effortless – it’s the choosing that’s tricky. Luckily your hosts are passionate about the area so can give you their top tips. 

An eleven-minute walk will take you to Plaza Mayor, a bustling square lined with restaurants and cafes. We love a spot of people-watching on holiday so it’s a firm favourite of ours. You might like to wander over to the Royal Palace, which is built on the site of the old Alcazar fortress. It’s sixteen minutes on foot from the apartment. For an afternoon of fresh air, take a picnic to El Retiro Park. We like to stop by a market for fresh bread and Spanish cheese and meats. The park is twenty-seven minutes from the apartment. 

If exploring on foot is proving too tiring, you can zip around the city on the metro. The La Latina stop is just three minutes from your front door. This apartment is a haven in the middle of a vibrant and beautiful city – it makes for a wonderful home base, and has everything you need. 
 

The Little Bear

Nestled in the bustling heart of the city, this Lavapiés apartment is just the spot for those who want interior design and location. From here, you can walk to El Retiro, Mercado Antón Martín and Museo Nacional del Prado, as well as all the city’s top eateries. The apartment accommodates five, with three sleeping on sofa beds, so though perhaps a little compact, the flexibility is there if you need it. And while you’ll need to climb some stairs to reach this fourth-floor pad, the stylish interiors and little balcony are a treat after a long day of sightseeing.

Just a ten-minute walk from Plaza Mayor, this stylish flat isn't messing about when it comes to location. Interesting museums, high-end shopping and many of Madrid's must-see landmarks are a quick stroll away – including Puerta del Sol, Parque de El Retiro and Palacio Real de Madrid, just to name a few. If you love trying new cuisine, you're in luck – this neighbourhood has an array of delectable restaurants and lively bars to while away the evenings in.

Or, if you're partial to homecooked meals, make your way back to this stylish flat and rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. It has everything you'll need – a large island, built-in appliances and plenty of counter space. The rest of the flat is impeccable, too – two glossy bathrooms (one decked out with bold palm leaf wallpaper, another en-suite) feature rainfall showers, the comfortable bedrooms are cosy and pared-back and the bright living area boats a squishy sofa and a lovely Juliet balcony that floods the room with light. We think you'll love calling this apartment home, whether you're in town for a few days or a few weeks.
