Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. The Peak District is only a ten-minute drive away too if you're in the mood for a long ramble.

Elsewhere, we'd suggest spending a day hiking the astounding heather-covered hills of the nearby North York Moors.

The 199 Steps

From near the house, you’re able to follow walking trails along the river, allowing you to unwind and rejuvenate in the fresh country air. But the home itself also offers plenty of opportunity for peace and quiet. 

Between striking colour choices, plush furniture, captivating art, and an outdoor area that offers sunshine and privacy in equal measure, you can find the space to sit quietly with a cup of coffee, throw your phone aside and enjoy a board game or puzzle, dine together at the beautifully made dining table, and lie in late. Supply runs can be made in the little market town, where cobbled streets will lead you past cafes and artisans, with Richmond Castle always looming in the background.
