From the outside, this Victorian home looks as quaint as quaint can be, but inside, guests will find an apartment that mixes vintage and modern aspects with considerable dexterity. In the living room, a large bay window floods the space with natural daylight, which dances nicely off the wooden floors and walls painted in muted grey. Elsewhere, we're big fans of the gleaming copper bathtub in the master bathroom that promises to be as comfortable as it is handsome. The home's only an eight-minute walk from the River Ness and Inverness's town centre, which includes a castle and an art gallery. New York loft-style meets traditional fishing cottage at this bijou home in Pittenweem. Stepping inside, you can see this place was designed by an award-winning architect. Flagstone floors and the old stone partition wall have been retained as though from the 18th-century, but the kitchen is all sleek units and high-spec appliances. A wood-burner still crackles at the heart of the home, keeping things cosy in the colder months. Upstairs, a plump king-size bed awaits and the traditional old window looks out onto the narrow wynd below. As for location, you’re mere footsteps from Pittenweem’s High Street (about 30, we’ve counted), where you’ll find cafés, craft shops, galleries and a fabulous fish and chip shop. This home has been creating a bit of a buzz, and for all the right reasons. It's been featured by the BBC, and is a shining example of Scottish hospitality in the city of Inverness. Step inside, and you'll find a cosy space with plenty of seating, ideal for flopping down with a glass of whisky at the end of a long day exploring. The hosts have put great thought into every aspect of this home, from the luxury toiletries to the Bose speaker systems in every bedroom and the extra-large bathtub where you can soak in perfect peace. And, the hosts try to buy local wherever possible – once you've tried a cup of the locally-roasted coffee along with a freshly-baked slice of shortbread, you'll understand why. You're just a few steps away from the banks of the River Ness, and Inverness Castle is less than five minutes away from your front door, along with a range of shops and restaurants in the city centre. Jump in the car, and it takes twenty-five minutes to reach world-famous Loch Ness for some monster-spotting. Even if you don't spy Nessie, you can hop on one of the boat tours to sail along the water, or hit one of the nearby walking trails for an invigorating hike through the Highland landscapes.

This cottage sits on a 2000-acre estate where walking trails through the woodlands bring you to waterfalls, lochs and the craggy coastline of Dumfries and Galloway. A forty-minute stroll down a forest track brings you to a deserted beach, and the coastal town of Portpatrick is a twenty-minute walk away. A welcome pack of local produce – eggs, butter, bread, home baking, artisanal cheese and the estate’s handmade toiletries – awaits you on arrival. Perhaps head out to the sunny dining spot on the lawn for your first meal. Here you’ll find a fire pit to keep the evening chill at bay. The home itself is beautifully decorated. The living room is like a wild meadow with its magenta and violet mural of wild birds and flowers and pot plants seem to fill every nook. Yet there’s a grand feeling to the tufted velvet sofas, and the writer’s desk in the corner is an Edwardian antique from Dunskey Castle itself. Once the wood-burner is crackling away it’s super cosy too. Come bedtime, bedrooms are a fairytale fantasy with plush beds fit for a princess. Especially the twin room, with silk drapes flowing over the beds. With deer, pheasants and wild birds filling forest walks, you can feel like you’ve stepped right into a Disney movie.

This rather serious-looking stone building in the centre of Berwick-upon-Tweed was built back in the middle of the nineteenth century and used to be a school. Today, however, it has been completely renovated to the point where you would have no idea that these were once classrooms. In the main living-come-dining area, big windows look out into the garden and the estuary in the distance, as well as bathing the space in natural light. A bio-ethanol fireplace sits at one side of the room and provides a more eco-friendly way of warming up cold hands. When the weather's more agreeable, the home has some private outdoor space, as well as access to a shared courtyard that backs onto the old town walls. The town's pier and lighthouse can be reached in less than fifteen minutes' walk, as can the beach. You can also cross over the Scottish Border in around ten minutes by car, too.

The property is a stunning holiday home located in a secluded loch-side setting with breathtaking views of Loch Etive and Glencoe. This spacious six-bedroom home can accommodate up to twelve guests and boasts six bathrooms, making it perfect for holidays with family and friends. The house features a fully enclosed garden, Wi-Fi, an Aga, and ample parking. Guests can access the Loch directly from the garden via a track and boat owners can use the owner's slipway and buoy for an additional charge. Fishing rods and mackerel lines are also available on request. The surrounding area offers many popular destinations such as Inverawe Smokehouse and Shop, Taynuilt village, and Oban, which is about 30 minutes' drive away. Children and dogs are welcome, but guests must be aware that there is a small garden pond at the back of the house and that the property is accessed via a rough forestry track.

Known locally as the Kingdom of Fife, this east coast region of Scotland is awash with historic monuments, ancient towns, sweeping beaches, and fresh sea air. While its heritage speaks volumes, there are of course plenty of built-up areas with everything a modern visitor could need.

Kinghorn offers pubs, traditional chippies, a golf course, and cute cafés, but the standout feature is the huge town hall. This Tudor-Gothic style building was built in 1826, with its ground floors having played the role of council chambers and even a prison. Secret stairways and enormous windows let you admire views of Kinghorn Beach, a seven-minute walk away. But why are we focusing solely on this historic landmark? Well, because this is your home. 

Your apartments are set over the first and second floors, with jaw-dropping, period interiors which feel regal, luxurious, and opulent. Rich red fabrics, elegant cornicing, chandeliers, solid marble fireplaces, antique furniture, gilded mirror frames – we could go on. There’s even a private walled garden at the back, where you can sit out under the stars sipping whisky and looking out over your very own kingdom.

If you want to try and spot the ever-elusive Loch Ness Monster, this old stone clergy house that has sat on the banks of the famed body of water for over a century-and-a-half lets you do so in the utmost comfort. Inside, the rooms are filled with varnished wood furnishings, boldly printed rugs and roaring fireplaces — so you can look out the windows at the loch without feeling cold in the slightest. Other noble flourishes come in the shape of the four-poster beds and the two deep claw-footed bathtubs. There's even a small garden out the back, but you're hardly short of beautiful outdoor attractions around these parts. Urquhart Castle is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Dores Beach can be reached in twenty minutes in case you're in the mood for a bracing wild swim. Although the address feels both rural and secluded, the town centre of Inverness only takes seventeen minutes to reach in the car, too.

This is one of those homes for which first impressions can be deceiving. From the outside, the nineteenth-century stone exterior looks rather traditional, but the interior is a completely different story. Walls painted in a muted grey, wooden floors and striking monochrome portraits are as modern as they come, and the design works particularly well with the bountiful amounts of natural light from the bay windows. Pristinely designed it might be, but there's also a whole lot of fun to be had here, too. Out in the garden, there's a hot tub in which you can sit and take in the view of the Sound of Karrera. There's also a separate shed which doubles up as a games room, complete with tables for ping-pong, poker and pool. In the town of Oban, there are distilleries and seafood restaurants to visit, but as you can probably guess from the scenery, there are lots of coastal walks to embark upon too, including forty-five minutes to Ganavan Sands.

On the banks of a secluded loch near Aboyne, this beautiful cabin comes with a beautiful story. It was originally built in the 1920s by Viscountess Cowdray, a close friend of Queen Mary. Choosing it as the perfect spot between her home and the royal estate at Balmoral, it was built so the two women could regularly meet and take tea by the water together. Sitting here, in the peaceful Aberdeenshire countryside, it's not hard to see what attracted them. The setting, overlooking the loch, and surrounded by tall pines is a truly inspirational one, and whether you're here in the middle of summer or the winter, the views from the home are second to none.
