Though compact, the cosy cabin has everything you’ll need, including a fully-equipped kitchen, large sofa, and wood-burner. The bed is on a mezzanine level accessed via a ladder, so it won’t suit everyone, but the star-gazing roof window will make the climb up worth it. When you’re ready to explore, you’ll find waterfalls nearby, and Loch Ness a thirty-minute drive away.

From the outside, this Victorian home looks as quaint as quaint can be, but inside, guests will find an apartment that mixes vintage and modern aspects with considerable dexterity. In the living room, a large bay window floods the space with natural daylight, which dances nicely off the wooden floors and walls painted in muted grey. Elsewhere, we're big fans of the gleaming copper bathtub in the master bathroom that promises to be as comfortable as it is handsome. Off the same room, there's access to a cute terrace with alfresco seating — yes, it's Scotland, but put on a jumper and enjoy the dramatic sunsets that this corner of the country enjoys. The home's only an eight-minute walk from the River Ness and Inverness's town centre, which includes a castle and an art gallery. If you’re looking for a rural escape, this delightful cottage in Carlincraig is sure to fit the bill. Although just over 30 miles from Aberdeen, also known as The Silver City due to its granite buildings, this home feels a world away from any sort of metropolis. Upon arrival, rolling hills and fields stretch for miles around this stony bolthole in the countryside. But the experience isn’t exactly rustic. Your host welcomes you with a luxury hamper, packed with nibbles and a bottle of champagne. Light up the wood-burning stove, get cosy under the ANTA of Scotland blankets, and say cheers to luxe country living. On sunny days in the garden, the little ones can keep entertained with the swing-ball set, or building their secret den in the tipi. If the weather is fine, choose to dine outside on the patio. A world away from the city, the only traffic you’ll get here is the odd pine marten or roe deer passing through the orchard.
